Please can someone help me on this issue.

I am trying to link Excel to an Access file using MS Query (Data/Get External
Data/New database Query/MS Access DAtabase. When I select the file, I get the
message "This data source contains no visible tables". But the Access file
has 5 tables. I have tried other Access files, some of which work OK, and
others not. What do I need to do to the Access file to make this work?

Trying to import data and use the excel Query tool from another Excel File. I've defined the named ranges and made them lists. I can get word to recognize the tables for a mail merge, but when I try to import the data into another excel file using import external data, the error reads "This data source contains no visible tables".

Why would word detect the Excel tables, but not another excel file. How can I fix this?

Hi,

I have tried this using many different approaches (actually opened an unsolved thread before) - after many unsuccessful attempts with VBA

With input from Rob here, I am trying to Import/Export data in real time from one excel book to other (different instance of excel) using "Get External Data".

I tried to create a data link but getting " This data source contains no visible tables" error.

How would you do it?

Note: My goal here is to automate similar to what happens when pasting values from one book to other as an "object link". - As the cell values from one work book is updated in real time from the other.

any insight is helpful

Thanks,

I saved a database as an Excel file and used query to pull selected data into a new file. The problem is I get the error message "This Data Source Contains No Visible Tables." Any ideas why it's not recognizing the database? Thanks in advance,

Regards,
John

I imagine there are easier ways to work with this, but I want to use
"queries" on a set of data which is currently in an excel file.

However, when I try to do:

Data/Import External Data/NewDatabase Query/Excel Files ...
.... on the excel file. I get the following error message from Microsoft Query:

"This data source contains no visible tables"

What am I doing wrong? How do I set up the excel file so that it is clearly
seen as a table?

[It all works well when I do something similar with a very similar an Access
db file.]

Thanks in advance.

I am trying to use the "Get External Data"

To import a excel data base but when I select the Excel file I get the
following Mesage.

"this data source contains no visible tables"

I already tied Microsoft Support nothing came up.

Dear Excel Experts

I have 3 excel files (excel 97, xls) and the 1st has 3 columns like the following:

BIBID | Author | Item Barcode | Location

and 2nd file has 2 columns like the following

ITEMID | BIBID

and the last file has 3 columns like the following

ITEMID | Title | Subject

I tried to combine these 3 files into 1 by going to Get External Data, new query, thn i defined the new data source as microsoft excel driver. It said this data source contains no visible table. Is there any other method where i can join the 3 files so that i get Author | Item Barcode | Location | Title | Subject in 1 excel worksheet, please advise!

Regards/Mike

Hello

I am having a problem in connect a pivottable from another pivottable (both pivottables are from the same source data).

Steps I have taken:

On the Data tab, in the Get External Data group, I clicked Existing Connections.
In the Existing Connections dialog box, in the show box, I make sure that All Connections is selected.
I do not have any connection yet so I clicked on Browse for More
In the Select Data Source dialog box, I clicked New Source to start the Data Connection Wizard so that I can select the data source that I want to connect to. I select ODBC DSN
In the Data Connection Wizard and clicked next
On the ODBC data sources, I select Excel Files and clicked next
On the Select Workbook dialog box, I navigate to My file and clicked OK
My problem starts here:

8. On the Data Connection Wizard the file I navigated is listed on the text box on Select the database that contains the data you want but the next button is grayed out. when I unchecked the Connect to a specific table, the next button becomes available. I then clicked next

9 . On the Save Data Connection File and Finish dialog box I Clicked finished. This then give me a Microsoft Excel dialog box that states This data source contain No visible table.

Note:

I created the Pivottable from the same data source contained in the Worksheet named Orders from the table called Orders. I named the two pivottable: Pivot1 and Pivot2

What is the way forward:

If correct, I should be presented with the Import Data dialog box, where I can select how I want to view this data in my workbook and then insert a slicer and then do my ultimate objective to connect this slicer with the other Pivottable

I am connecting Pivot2 to Pivot1

Thanks for your help in advance.

Hello All,

So far I jave used External Data option in Excel to import
data from 2 sources..Access and MS SQL server..now i want
to import the data from an another Excel file..

I have created one excel file similar to my access table
with 5 columns with proper headings and some data inside
it.(Assuming that the excel will treat this as a kind of
table!!).

Now when i tried to import the same from another Excel
file, it says "The data source contains no visible tables"

Can anyone help on this on how to fetch the data using
this option.

My second Query related to the prev one..

ALternatively, can i use Data objects like DAO,ADO... in
VBA macros to connect to the Excel file(where i have
stored the data) and play with the data..

I have used the same technique to read Access,SQL tables..

Any help would be highly appreciated..

Wish you a wonderful new year 2005!!

Thanks

Sri

Has anyone had this problem with Excel 2007 crashing when trying to up date a data source within a pivot table?

Dynamic range name not showing in MS Query…

When I use the dynamic range name (e.g., =OFFSET(timelog!$A$4,0,0,COUNTA(timelog!$A:$A),5)

This range name doesn’t show up in the MS Query Wizard’s Choose Columns…?

“the data source contains no visible tables…”

?????

Thank you.

Hi,
I have a large CSV data file that I am using as an "external data source"
for a Pivot table in an (autoupdate) template.
That works fine. It's the sales file created automatically by an
application. So it's "sales.csv" and my template with the Pivot table is
"sales.xlt".

But I also have costs, so I have another file where costs are recorded
manually. The data is in "Costs.xls" and I will have another Pivot table
where I analyse the costs : "Costs.xlt"

Now I want to offset Costs against Sales, so I am looking for some way to
get a new pivot table to read both the Sales.CSV and the Costs.XLS data and
combine the results.

Anyone here know how to do that ?
Or, can anyone point me to a site where that is explained.

TIA

I have an actual sales data source, and budget sales data source, i need to

What causes this error:

"Data source reference is not valid"

when I'm trying to insert a Pivot Table from simple Excel data that is
properly formatted with no blank cells and appropriate headers as column
labels?

I am attempting to create a pivot table (which I've done in the past) but I
get an error stating that the "data source reference is not valid." The excel
data was created from out internal software in Comma-Seperated Values (CSV)
format. Any thoughts on how to fix this?

I have multiple pivot tables in one workbook and would like to change the
data source on all of the pivot tables. Is there a way to do this all at
once instead of selecting each table? The data is contained in another Excel
workbook. Thanks!

Hello all,

I need:

1. Change some of the content in the data area of a Pivot Table. I know how to do that w/ the EnableDataValueEditing property.
2. Write-back these changes to the Data Source. Got no clue how to do that...

Example,

1. Data source is:

Name Qty
Mike 50
Mike 100
Mike 200

2. Pivot Table:

Row Labels Sum of Qty
Mike 350

3. Manual Change in the Data area:

Row Labels Sum of Qty
Mike 35

4. Data Source is updated like this:

Name Qty
Mike 5
Mike 10
Mike 20

Is there any way to do that w/ VBA and Excel 2007?
