How to put a worksheet tab name in a cell?

Does anyone know how to put a reference link or formula in a cell that has the worksheet tab names on it. The following is what I am trying to do:

work sheet 1 Total for all regions

cell a1 - name of worksheet 2 or the first region
cell b1 - name of worksheet 3 or the second region on so on

Please help..


I currently use both Excel 97 & Excel XP, is there a way by formula to
include the worksheet tab name in a cell similar to &[tab] in the
header/footer?

Hello all,

I have two separate workbooks with an equal number of worksheets. In workbook 1, each sheet has a person's name (John Doe, Susan Smith, etc.) in cell c6. In workbook 2, each sheet is named after one of those people. That is, workbook 2 has worksheet tabs John Doe, Susan Smith, etc. The worksheets in workbook 1 do not have cooresponding names, but they could have if it made the solution simpler.

I want to perform the same set of calculations on each sheet in workbook 1, by including in the formulas the related data from workbook 2, based on the match between the name in cell c6 of each sheet in workbook 1 and the tab name in workbook 2.

I would prefer a link formula, but would be willing to use a macro. I do not think I need anyone to write the macro for me. Whether link or macro, I only need to know how, if possible, the reference is coded.

I don't know if what follows will help or confuse, but essentially, I want to incorporate a set of calculations into each sheet of workbook 1 of the following nature:

content of wb1 sheet 1 cell m20: = value of wb1 sheet 1 cell m7 * value of wb2 cell a20 on sheetname with value of wb1 sheet 1 cell c6.
content of wb1 sheet 1 cell m21: = value of wb1 sheet 1 cell n7 * value of wb2 cell a21 on sheetname with value of wb1 sheet 1 cell c6.
content of wb1 sheet 1 cell m22: = value of wb1 sheet 1 cell o7 * value of wb2 cell a22 on sheetname with value of wb1 sheet 1 cell c6.

content of wb1 sheet 2 cell m20: = value of wb1 sheet 2 cell m7 * value of wb2 cell a20 on sheetname with value of wb1 sheet 2 cell c6.
content of wb1 sheet 2 cell m21: = value of wb1 sheet 2 cell n7 * value of wb2 cell a21 on sheetname with value of wb1 sheet 2 cell c6.
content of wb1 sheet 2 cell m22: = value of wb1 sheet cell o7 * value of wb2 cell a22 on sheetname with value of wb1 sheet 2 cell c6.

I'm trying to reference a worksheet which name is specified in a cell.
Example:

assuming that cells A1 and A2 contain the name of my sheets :

A1 Sheet A
A2 Sheet B

in cell C1 I need to get a value from "Sheet A", like ='Sheet A"!X1,
while in C2 I'd like to have ='Sheet B'!X1
but I'd like to get bthe name of sheets from cell A1 and A2,

something like

C1 ='$A$1'!X1
C2 ='$A$2'!X1

Which is the right sintax?

I see it is possilbe to reference a worksheet tab name in a cell. Is it
possible to name a worksheet tab from a cell in that worksheet? So if you
change the cell name it will also change the worksheet tab name.

Using a formula, is there a way to display worksheet (tab names) in a cell?
For example, I have 3 worksheets with names One, Two and Three. In cell A1 in
each woksheet, I would want to see the worksheet name for whichever worksheet
I am viewing. I do not want the name to change in the cell each time I click
on one of the other two spreadsheets, similar to what happens with
=CELL("FILENAME"). I also do not want to see the entire path for the
worksheet.

How to put a NAME in the Horizontal category axis label. I have one called
temp, so in the Horizontal category axis label I write Temps,
the result: on my axis I see the word TEMPS. and not the values of that name

Can this even be done. I am on a tight schedule and I need to either do this or move on. Can someone please let me know if this is possible?

Hello again

I been trying to change the text of a button from Forms, in a protected sheet. I been reading that is better to work with Buttons of the Control Toolbox via VBA. But I dont know how to put a button of this kind in a sheet and make it look as a Forms button (i can only put buttons in User_Forms!!). Is this possible? Do i have to create a button via program? Any ideas on how to continue?

How to Make a Count-Down Timer in Excel?

Dear Forum,

I am preparing a Small Test for the Human Resource Department which can help them in the Screening process.

This test would be a Multi-option questionnaire and would be Time-Bound and the questions would be picked from a Bin of Questions with each question already assigned with the number of minutes to be solved in.

For Ex: I have a Databse of 50 questions, each question assigned different timings depending on their complexity and for various level openings.

I would like to pick up randomly any no of questions and get the Total Time Displayed in the Cell G3 and in the Second Sheet where it has a look of an exam it should have a CountDOwn Timer after the Candidate clicks on the Start Button and it Should have a Count-Down Timer which should be Dynamic to pick up the Total Time from the no of selected questions for the Test as well as should Disable the Sheet once the Time reaches zero...

It can also promt the user of the Last 5 minutes to go...The Candidate can click on Submit button to complete the Test ..

Can this be possible..It would be really helpful as the current procedure is time-consuming and also not very reliable..
I am not sure whether this is only possible in only VBA thats the reason posted the query in WorkSheets Functions but please if its not then can be moved...

Can I put a drop down box in which will force them to choose one of those? I need this because I have a countif formula looking for instances of these, and users often make mistakes. 20 pages with 60 or so of these boxes is a nightmare to hunt down mistakes.

Hey there. I know how to put a list of numbers in chronological order, but is it possible to do this specific to the 3rd digit in a number. For example, if you have these #'s:

Can you arrange them in chronologic order according to the 3rd digit?
