Histogram plot with normal curve overlay

I would like to create a histogram from experimental data with the normal distribution curve overlaying the histogram.

Ther doesn't seem to be a clear way to do this. Any suggestions?

Hi! How do I plot a normal distribution curve on a histogram on Excel 2007? I have the mean and standard deviation. The values for my normal distribution curve are as follows:
Bubble size range No of bubbles
9.5-10.0mm 2
10.1 -10.5mm 7
10.6-11.0mm 3
11.1- 11.5mm 9
11.6-12.0mm 7
12.1-12.5mm 7
12.6-13.0mm 2
13.1-13.5mm 11

I found a similar question posted, but didn't understand the answer given.

I have a normal, basic distribution bar graph. I learned how to SEPARETELY graph a normal bell curve. I want to OVERLAY this bell curve on my original bar graph, so i can compare our sample to the norm. Any easy way to do this?

How do I make a Normal Curve with my data

I am given a sigma and a mu and told to plot the normal distribution curve. I know NOTHING about excel and need some major help fast!

I am trying to plot my column chart with a superimposed normal distribution to show the normality of the data. This works out smashingly if my column widths are 1. However when I make my column widths .25 (as they need to be in the name of interesting results) the columns get approximately a forth as tall but the normal distribution does not change its height. Is it possible to plot a normal distribution against columns of width other than 1 and still get a constructive result?

Does anyone know off hand what the formula for a normal curve is, I'm trying
to work out what the y values are for each part in x

or, more explicitly

For a given integer total N, then given a two tailed normal (Gaussian), I
want to know the function values at M equally spaced points along the x axis

this isn't some kind of homework cheat, I'm messing with an NFL stats
program for a tabletop sim game. I wanted the countif stuff to see what kind
of %age of a teams total running attempts were made by each back

Now, I have a set of endurance ranges, either 5 or 6, not sure yet, and want
the number in each group to then reflect a normal Gaussian distribution with
the bulk of players in the middle category and very few at each end

I can remember 1 std dev either side containing ~ 66% of the population and
doesn't 2 std dev cover ~ 95%?

something else is coming back to me - isn't this z-scores, with the mean at
"x=0" effectively where the normal is centred around?

anyway I know the mean and stdev of the values, so hopefully there is a way
to quickly calculate the bounding limits of any arbitrary (equal) set of
divisions of the population

2 questions:
1. I have a series of about 200 numbers that I would like to create a
frequency chart/graph for. I am having difficulty in OL2000 creating a
frequency graph.

2. I have the mean and standard deviation. I do I create a normal curve
with this data?

Thank you,

I am unable to figure out how to place all of my employees on a bell/normal curve displayed in the chart. I am more concerned though with trying to shade in different percentages within this curve. I am able to do the math manually and use paint to shade in the chart but I would like something dynamic rather static. Does anyone know how I would show my employee as marks on this chart, or more importantly show shading for certain percentages on this chart. The percentages are easy to work out but I cannot figure out how to shade the curve. I am looking for percentage values of 2%, 8%, 65%, 15%, and 10%

Ok, I give up. In Excel 2007, how do I plot two data series having common
x-values? When I go to Select Data Source and Add a series, I have to
specify both x-values and y-values. If I add a second data series with the
same x-values as the first, then the x-axis labels are just 0,1,2,..., not
the x-values I specified. I do get a scatter plot with two data series, but
the x-axis is not correctly labelled.

This was no problem in prior versions of Excel, but like everything else in
the "easier to use" Office 2007, it is much harder to figure out.

Hi all, I began working in a clinical research lab today, and the experimenters have put me straight to work. I am trying to create a marked scatter plot (with no line, this is their personal request) consisting of data obtained from 3 different test groups, with the clinical value plotted on the Y-axis and the month (multiple month long experiment) plotted on the X-axis. Thus, I have say, 25 points all under a single given X value, e.g. month 1. I was wondering if there's a way to "spread out" the values so that you can see each individual point, thereby stretching the points out along the X-axis so they aren't clustered so close together. Below is a screen shot of what the chart looks like, my apologies for not being able to articulate what I want well, to say I'm an excel novice would be an understatement.

I am finding great trouble placing web & email addresses in cells along with
normal text and have wasted a lot of time trying to sort this out. Either all
the text is in normal font (& acting like a link) or all the text is actively
highlighted as a link!
How do I easily control this so I can have both normal text & links (but
seperately/alongside each other) within cells?
The auto complete function to typing web/email links is turned on but it
doesn't appear to make any difference!
How to I format the cells to achieve what I want? It seems to me the cell
format must not be allowing this function to happen, but I have tried
reformatting the cells without success! Frustratingly I have some cells in my
worksheet where links & text do coexist!
I have searched for help on the net with no success either yet.
I am most grateful for help & advice to help me & look forward to all

I am trying to plot a logistic curve and determine r2 values for 13 data points
(0,38558),(10,49371),(20,62980),(30,76212),(40,922 28),(50,106022),(60,123203),(70,132165),(80,151326 ),(90,179323),(100,203212),(110,226546),(120,24871 0),(130,281422)

HI guys just wandering if anyone can me with this problem. this is my set of

x1 y2 x2 y2 x3 y3
2.7 9.4 30.7 100.1 1.275 9.4
5.6 25.5 33.6 90.7 1.325 25.5
8.0 39.4 39.3 74.6 1.375 39.4
10.1 51.1 45.5 60.7 1.425 51.1

Set data 1 ( x1,y1 ) = plot with reverse Y value
Set data 2 ( x2,y2 ) = plot with normal Y value
Set data 3 ( x3,y3) = plot with reverse Y value, need secondary axis

I have been succesfull to plot all the data, except when i have to use the
secondry X-axes ( set data 3 )
i know there has been suggestion about " go to chart option and change it to
secondary x-axis, but the problem is because i have revese the Y value, the X
- axis swap to the top make it unable to have secondary axis
what happen when i " tick" secondary axis, my primary X-axis will
dissapear........please help me excel expert..........

I am trying to plot in excel a scatter plot with mulitple xy settings..All
the x setting are time. I am wondering if there is a way with in excel to
select the columns and then plot them accordingly

Hi all,

I have the following data, which I want to plot with Excel chart:

x y value
1 1 0.191850392857143
1 2 0.343870875
1 3 0.373216464285714
1 4 0.439175392857143
2 1 0.0218835357142857
2 2 0.136193589285714
2 3 0.146259946428571
2 4 0.181633303571429
..... can be more ....

How can I plot the data (scatter) where the x-axis correspond
to "x" and y-axis correspond to "y".

I have to generate an XY Chart (a full sheet) out of transistor
parameterized data. (The parameter is the voltage applied to the base,
and X and Y refer to Collector current and Collector-Emitter-Voltage,
respectively. But this shouldn't matter). The data is on another sheet
and it looks like that:

Trans1 Trans2
Param1 Param2 .... Param10 Param1 Param2...
X Y X Y X Y X Y...

The curves appear as follows:
Different symbols for different parameters
Different colors for different Transistors.

That is, the X-Y-Curve of Trans1-Param1 is drawn with red crosses (for
instance). the X-Y-Curve of Trans1-Param2 is drawn with read circles.
The X-Y-Curve of Trans2-Param1 draws with blew crosses, and
Trans2-Param2 draws with blew circles, and so on, up to

I have found the legend to be strongly coupled with the curves, but I
would have a different legend.

Instead of having legens entries Trans1_Param1, Trans1_Param2,
....Trans6_Param10, i.e. all combinations, I just would like to have
this legend:

+++ Param1 ----- Trans1
ooo Param2 ----- Trans2
----- Trans6
@@ Param10

That is, the Param legend entries should appear with their
corresponding symbols, but in black. The TransX legend entries should
appear as lines in their corresponding colors.

Is there a way to perform this in Excel VBA? I mean, this is probably
the legend humans want for parameterized data, especially if they are
used to Matlab, Diadem, and so on

Any help would be great.

Best regards

Hello fellow Excel users,

When trying to do a histogram plot I receive the following error
message: "Cannot change part of a merged cell" and then "Histogram -
Cannot draw chart for empty bins"

I am using the Analysis ToolPak Add-In --> Histogram to Output a Graph
in a new worksheet.
As far as I can see, I do not have any merged cells in the ranges I
have selected.

Has anyone else encountered this error message? Is there something
simple I'm not seeing?

Any help is appreciated.
Thank you!

Hi,,, I would really appreciate any quick help with this

I have two sheets tracking two key performance indices of people over time

what I need is a drop down menue where by selecting the person name it would display the plot with the two performance trends taken from the two tables, and the title of the plot would be the person name while the legend would point each performance index trend.

as an example i attached a sheet with similar simplified tables (can't put the real data) . here is a screen shot as well.

Please any quick help would be appreciated

Hi, I am not sure how to plot a bell curve.
Google search but still confuse.

Thanks for advice.

Excel 2007.

I'm wondering if it's possible to show a specific data point against a normal
curve. I would like to be able to show where, for example, a particular test
score would fall on the curve of all test scores. Suggestions please?

I want to do a "Scatter plot with data points connected by lines" (under "X-Y
(Scatter Charts)") but with a 3-D visual effect like can be done in "3-D
Line" under Line charts.

this would allow a user to create something like a 3-d model of any object.
they allow the option for line charts, and i don't see the same thing for
scatter charts. seems like it would be very helpful, especially for what i
am doing, but for lots of other people too. any suggestions?

I have an xy-scatter plot with 2 series, say Series1 and Series2. The data
is arranged in 4 columns, Series1-x-values, Series1-y-values,
Series2-x-values and Series2-y-values. I would like to draw a line between
the Series 1 and Series 2 xy-coordinate for each row in my data. Does anyone
have good tips on doing this? I would appreciate any help.

This is more of a math question than a charting one. I am trying to plot the
sin curve rotated by 45 degrees. I started by plotting points for the
equation y = x + sin(x). This resulted in a skewing of
the curve. I want the sin curve to be determined by the distance traveled
along and symmetrical around the line y = x.

No luck finding an answer? You could always try Google.
