hi guys!

is it possible to create a macro that would restrict an excel file from being copied? My excel file is stored on local hard drive is there any possibilities that i could protect it from being copied to another drive say network drive?

Hi!

I have an Excel file where data about the user is written to cells in the open workbook.

When the file is on the hard drive, all works well.

When the file is on a CD, and opened from the CD, my logic tells me that it will give a runtime error of some sort because it cannot save to the CD.

Because I have to have this information saved to the file following the first use, and because I cannot afford these run time errors to occur (professionalism, you know!), is there another way than telling the user NOT to open from the CD drive from preventing the file from being opened from there?

Kind regards

Is there any way within VBA to create a procedure to prevent an Excel file from being moved from its directory, or to prevent it being copied?

Thanks.

Please can anyone help me. Is there a way of preventing an excel file from
being deleted without using passwords?

I have a huge Excel file that contains very important imformation, I wan't to allow other people to view it, but not be able to copy/paste any data from it, print the file or copy the actual, physical file (not sure if possible through Excel but there must be a way to do this somehow). I'm wondering if these things are possible and if so how to go about doing them and would greatly appreciate anyones help.

Hi,
this is a security issue.

I 've a common excel file storing data and some VBA code. Some of the data contained are sensitive so I want to keep them secure. But if I try to open the file with Word or notepad, information and data contained in the code or in the sheets (e.g. passwords, mail addresses, etc..), can be accessed (even if not as clearly as in the sheets).

I don't want the data contained in the file and the code be visible by opening the file through any other application but excel.

I've tried to password protect the whole workbook, but it doesn't work.

Do you have any ideas?

thank you very much

Cloe

Does anyone have an idea on how to prevent a preselected cell in a defined area from being copied (copy and paste) into another document such as WORD?

For example: Ignore the content of cell B2 in the selected A1:C3 range.

Or maybe the way is to not be able to "highlight" the specific cell, therfore blocking it from being copied.

Thanks for your help;

Stephane

Hi,

Probably a very simple request but Is there a Macro that would prevent my entire excel file from being deleted by another User?

about 6 months ago Excel closed from errors generated when the copy tab to
another workbook command was used. upon reboot, could no longer open Excel
files from desktop; had to be inside Excel to open file. If attempting to
open from desktop would get error message: "cannot find the file 'C/Documents
and Settings/Administrator/Desktop/Work/Excel Workpapers/filename.XLS (or one
of its components). Make sure the path and filename are correct and that all
required libraries are available". Tried reinstalling the Registry, didn't
work. Tried Excel problem solver, didn't help. Tried reinstalling Small
Business, did'nt help. Am using Excel 5.0 under Windows Professional 2000 on
an IBM laptop. How do I fix this?

how can I copy multiple Excel files from Outlook (all at once) into Excel?

Is there a way to do this? When I right clik ONE file attached to the email,
I can copy it, either using My Computer, or opening the directory within
Excel. BUT, if I clik 2 or more, and try to copy & paste, it doesn't work. I
have 16 files to copy. Can you help?

Also, why is it so annoying and hard to find a solution to this??? I've been
looking online using microsoft "Help" (not too damn helpful!) for over 30
minutes. Simple searches do NOT yield a solution!!

I can't understand why I can't just cut & paste multiple attachments from
Outlook to Excel (or any other application I want to use...).

Any real help you can give me is appreciated. Thanks.

Is it possible to set an Excel file so it can't be saved by the user? Can't
be saved locally or anywhere else?

Hello all.
I am currently developing some code to open an excel file from a
password protected intranet website. When i step through my code,
everything works fine, but when run normally my code will die at the if
application.workbooks.count=currentnumexcel statement(i.e. the code
executes faster then excel can open the file from ie?!).

I thought by having the While ie.busy loop, i would avoid this problem;
do i need to add something like while Excel is opening the file,
wait?? What's the correct syntax for this?

Thanks

<Code>
currentnumexcel = Application.Workbooks.Count
frm.Click
While IE.Busy
DoEvents
Wend

' if opened new excel instance then copy otherwise prompt error

If Application.Workbooks.Count = currentnumexcel Then
Application.Workbooks(currentnumexcel).Activate
MsgBox URL & " could not be opened, please check your login
information", vbExclamation
Exit Function
Else
Set xlEroom = Application.Workbooks(Application.Workbooks.Count)
End If
'get application data

Hi everybody!

Is it possible to prevent an Excel file from being copied once it has been installed on a specific machine?

uzzled:

Hi Everyone,

Is there a way to protect an excel file from accidently being deleted. I have a shared workbook, and I am concerned it might be deleted from the folder.

Thanks,

Hello

I have the below code that works successfully extracting all excel files from an email folder and placing them in a required location folder.

What I need is for the code to check cell A1 in each excel workbook template and if it does not equal "Latest Template" then it will not extract the file.

Any help much appreciated.
Brad

Nice to hear from you again. I wonder if I can ask you a question regarding
VBA. I have a program that open an excel file from select cell (see below).
However, this program opens file just from the same directories. What happen
if Ithe last directory changes all the time. For example instead 100 could be
200 or 300 or 400 and so on. Can the program be adjusted to get this new
directory and find the file?

Thanks in advance.

I have an excel worksheet protected also the workbook is protected.
But ounce you highlighted all the worksheet then press right click & choose

So how a protected worksheet can be protected from being copied to a new
worksheet???

I am desperate for an answer to this.

I created a protected sheet that only allows some cells to have data entered
- the rest are locked out. BUT it doesn't prevent people from copying the
data from one 'enterable' cell into another - but when this is done, the
formatting, i.e., the borders, the font size and style, etc, get put into the
new cell. How do I run a program in Excel so that everyone using the
form/document can only cut and paste data from one unlocked cell to another,
but have the data in the receiving cell retain it's own formatting. Can
anything be done to prevent the formatting from being copied...just the data?

Please please,

I'd be most gratefu.

Sincerely,

Martin

I am writing a sub that would access a series of fodlers in the network and open an excel file from each folder. The path for each folder can be recreated, but the name for each file could not since the name contains a date, which is different for each file. Is there a way that by knowing the network path I can read the name of the excel file located in such folder ahead of time so that I can then insert it in the code and open the file.
Here is the code that I am currently using and that is not working:

SN = InputBox("Enter the SN of the starting animal:")
FolderName = ("AfricaAnimalAligatorData"ANIMAL" & SN & "")
Filename = "ANIMAL" & SN & "_READINGS_" & "YYMMDD" & ".xls"
Workbooks.Open Filename:=FolderName & Filename

Let me point out that if I enter the correct name for the file the code above does open the file. For instance, if I replace the code above for the code below it does open the file "ANIMALSN_READINGS_082509.xls":

SN = InputBox("Enter the SN of the starting animal:")
FolderName = ("AfricaAnimalAligatorData"ANIMAL" & SN & "")
Filename = "ANIMAL" & SN & "_READINGS_" & "082509" & ".xls"
Workbooks.Open Filename:=FolderName & Filename

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
