Lakh Separator. Indian Rupee Cell Format

Dear EXCEL forum,

I wonder anyone can help me to format cells with "lakh" separator.
Excel allows only thousand's separator.
The other option is to make the changes in the regional settings... which will
affect all other application.

Thanks in advnace for your assistance.

How do i define a number format in excel for Indian Rupees. I didnt find it
in the drop down menu list in the numbers format.

Hi all,

this is my very first post on this forum and I hope I am not posting a too trivial question wasting too much of your valuable time!

I have some 1000 rows of different cells among which the one of primary interest is formatted as follows "food safety; safety effort; voluntary programme; Q18; L5; D81", where the double quotes should be intended as the cell delimiters, the length of the dell is variable as well as the number of elements followed or preceded by a semicolon.
Among the latter, each of the alphanumeric ones is always of maximum length equal to three with the initial element being a capital letter (from A to Z) and the following two are digits generating a number (ranging from 00 and 99 although incidentally I have posted an example where the number should be 50 but is represented only as 5).

I would like to manipulate this cell using the "Text in columns function" in Excel but, to use it proficiently, beforehand I should add an additional separator in the cell after the last semicolon following the last word or before the first capital letter of the first of the three element codes (i.e., "... voluntary programme;, Q18; L5;..." or "... voluntary programme; ,Q18; L5;..." where the text between the double quotes is the desired target partial content of the cell). The coma should be inserted only before the first of the three alphanumeric codes, may not necessarily appear in the same position (it depends on the total length of the preceding text) and the target content can overwrite the original one.

I was told that regular expressions might help me reach the desired goal but I am totally new to VBA programming and the code available on line is fairly confusing to me. Therefore, I would appreciate the community's suggestion on how to do this and - in case - on how to implement it in Excel, if it does not take too much of your time.

Let me thank you all in advance for the time you might take to evaluate this request,
Hope to being able to contribute to the forum myself in the (near future),
Best regards
Mario

iHi Guys,

I have a database with me which has currencies in US$ format as follows:

USA - 1,124,594 (US Dollar thousand)

Now I have to convert this value in 2 formats:

1. Indian Rupees
2. US$ Million (for example - 1.00 millions, up to 2 decimal points)

Now I want to go forward tot his as follows:

1. first I want to convert the value in words so that it can be read and understood by anyone in the team.

2. I want the conversion in Indian rupee and US$ as stated in point number 2 above.

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

When trying to load an excel file it will not allow me to open it and shows
the message in a separate window " too many different cell formats".
I am led to believe (after a bit of investigation) that the file is now too
large and needs to be slimmed down. This is fine, but I need to be able to
open it first! Is there a way to open this file?
Please help. This spreadsheet is important to me. Thank you.

Hello,

I am new to this forum. Greetings to all!

I currently have a bug on Excel 2000 (SP3), running on Win. XP SP2.
(both are french versions)

Here goes:

I creat a new excel file using English Canada as regional settings. I
input some numbers and change the cell format to Number, 2 decimals and
with the thousands separator activated and the parentheses (no colour)
for negative numbers.

After I switch my regional settings to French Canada, the format of the
cell is now custom: "# ##0,00 _$_);(# ##0,00 _$)". Not only has the
format changed, the width of the cell is now larger than before, and
I'm stuck with some ######### in all cells that had the specified
number format in english.

The thing is, if I use 0, 1, or 3 decimals (instead of 2), there is no
bug... And when I switch back to English Canada, the format for the 2
decimal cells is restored and the display is ok.

Why, oh why? I couldnt find anything on the web, and thought maybe
someone here had some ideas...

BTW - When I open the same file on Excel 2003 (SP2) I get the same
result...

thank you for any help you might bring...

Louis

Hi!
I have a huge amount of different money values in diffenet cells, and I need
to separate/sort them according to the currency. The problem is that the
currency has been defined from the cell format menu(Format cell ->custom and
# ##0,00 "AUD"). If I use the FIND or SEARCH tools, they won't find the text
AUD because it is not typed in to the cell in a "regular" way. So I'm asking
if someone knows how to make a reference to the "AUD" part of the cell format
code, so that I could sort those currencies. If someone knows some way to do
this sorting, I would appreciate, if someone could help me.

Is there a function that can recognize cell formatting?
For example, I use VLOOKUP to find the machine routings associated with
certain part numbers (all in an array on a separate worksheet). To indicate
that the part numbers on that worksheet have been re-checked to verify that
the part routings are correct, I manually format the cell background to be
light green (an arbitrary choice) every time I re-verify the part routing.
When I use VLOOKUP to retrieve the part routing (from a separate worksheet),
I would like to know if the cell (on that worksheet) containing the part
number is formatted for ‘Cell Background Format = Light Green’. If I could
recognize this formatting, I could use Conditional Formatting for the Lookup
Value, so it too is Light Green.

When trying to load an excel file it will not allow me to open it and shows
the message in a separate window " too many different cell formats".
I am led to believe (after a bit of investigation) that the file is now too
large and needs to be slimmed down. This is fine, but I need to be able to

Hi,
I need a cell to restrict the input:
-Only numbers are allowed.
-No date posible.
-Any amount of decimals (they must all be shown in the cell).

I tried using the data validation and using the IsNumber() to restrict any non numeral input. The problem with this approach is that if the user enters a date; it apprears as a date format (eg: "5.May"). I'm using an european excel, where the decimal separator is a comma instead of a point; so if a user accidentaly types "5.5" instead of "5,5"; the cell will show "5.May".

I also tried the cell format/number/number format. The problem in here is that I dont know how many decimal positions will the input number have; and I need them all to be shown.

Is there any way to accomplish this?

P.S. Unfortunatelly I am not allowd to use macros to solve this issue.

Thanks a million.

Hello Everybody,

I found following cell format on net which allows dispaly of any number in Indian Style i.e Lacs, Crores etc. But this custom cell format is available only in workbook where I entered it. I want to have this in all workbooks. How to go about this.
Please help.

If I wanted to copy a cells formatting and content (Text) to another cell on a separate sheet, what code would I have to embed? I am a fresh neuling, so give it to me straight.

I have attached an example to this post.
I want to transfer the red and bold attributes of the words within the ( ) in sheet 1 to the cells in sheet 2 that I have linked to the cells in sheet 1 with =.

Thank you.

Hi,

I am using an Excel Macro-enabled protected file. I have allowed cell formatting on my protected sheet although when I group three tabs and try to change a cell format on all three I receive a message stating that the sheets are protected. How can I bypass this?

At this point, I am changing cell format on each tab separately. Can something be done?

Thanks!

Hello guys
i have problem in excel that when copying from sheet to another sheet in the same workbook it takes the format of the cell as time x.xx and applies there, regardless to the cell format of where it it goes. now if applied time-difference formula on sheet 2 it doesn't work! when entering time in sheet 2 it automatically make it as HH:MM:SS AM no matter however tried to change the cell format to time: hh:mm or to customer as h:mm@ it doesn't calculate the time different between 2 cells, one is copy-past from the previous sheet, and the new one which is inserted manually as time but never is taken as the one previously copied... therefore the output sum cell gives "VAlue" even obviously there is 2 cells with "time" but never calculating,

i think it is format of cell and we have to deal with it ? can we we force the cell format in somekind of code or making the copy-paste times from previous sheet comes without the cell format?

obviously this is to be deal with low experience IT stuff employee so should be protected not to change the cell format manually each time, they have tonly to insert the manul part then after that, the formula should caluclate this in protected cell

what you think guys? possible?

Hello,

I am working on a project where the fax numbers always appear in this format "000/000-0000".

In order for the corresponding software to recognize this format, I need this list of faxes to have the format of "000-000-0000. Is there a custom cell format that can be applied or should I look towards a macro that will convert this for me every time a new list is pasted? Or maybe i'm completely overlooking a cell format that will do it for me already!

Thank you for any help.

Hi Expert,

I have a Master sheet which needs to refer a source sheet having the same criteria name and vlookup the status value with the cell format.

Appreciate if someone can help me to code this. I am unable to color code the cell as per the source file.

Please refer the attached file. cell format.xls

Many thanks.
Regards,

I'm having some weird problems with several worksheets. I'm sure it is something simple.

On one worksheet, I have the cell formatted as date (*3/14/06). When I insert 3/31/06 it changes the output to 1/0/1900. The only way I can get it to display right is if I change for the format to text.

The second is similar. I have the cells formatted as number. When I insert 114456 it displays 1145. I have to change the format to Text then when the little green arrow apprears I change the format to number and it displays the right way.

Typically when you open a new worksheet in a workbook all cells are formatted as general. Is there any way to change this so that the cell formatting is different for the entire new worksheet?

Any ideas on how to obtain what the formatting of a cell is, be it a date, number, custom, currency, etc?

I want to acquire the format of the cell in vBA code, in order to display the value exactly as it was formatted in the cell when sending that value to a label on a UserForm or Field on a Microsoft Word form.

Example:
Cell A1 has the value 12/25/2006 formatted with the Date format: "mmmm-dd-yyyy" appearing as December 25, 2006
Cell A2 has the value 9.247 formatted with the Number format: "#.##" appearing as 9.25 to show only two-decimals
Cell A3 has the value 899, formatted with the Custom format: "00000" appearing as 00899 to represent a five-digit US zip code
Cell A4 has the value 1234.56 formatted with the Currency format: I think -"$#,##0.00_);($#,##0.00_)" appearing as $1,234.56

	VB:

 4
Entry = Cells(rownumber,1).Value 'gets whatever in cell
Formatting = Cells(rownumber,1).Format 'makes no sense in vBa.
    msgbox Entry & " formatted as " & Formatting
Next

If you like these VB formatting tags please consider sponsoring the author in support of injured Royal Marines
Is there a way to do this?

I tried downloading the xlsGen Reduction to get rid of the "Too many cell formats" error but it did not work (I paid $40 for nothing)

Is there a way in VBA to be able to have more than 4096 different cell formats???

Help greatly appreciated ! I did not find anything on Google Groups...

Thanks,

TomMP

In excel, How can I force a cell format as text by VBA code. I have one workbook contains the value like 09/05/2005, I just want it display like this, but excel always automatically format this as date datatype.

Greetings,

My cell format under the format menu chioce of the main menu bar seems to have crached. When I try to choose it nothing happens. Which means I can't change the cell formats for any cell.
Anyone have any idea as to what to do to get this menu item to working again? Any help would be most appreciated,

TIA
