Create Tournament Brackets

I would like to have a list of people randomly entered into a tournament bracket. Is there a way to enter the names on a sheet and run a program to insert brackets and names randomly on another sheet?

thanks
david

most part I have no problem saving them as htm files and having them
look just fine except for my final one, below is 2 examples I have,The
first one is almost 100% done except for one bracket tree is
missing, now in the second link,if I add a bracket tree to the spot that
is missing all but 2 disappear, and I for the life of me cant figure out
what to do,can anyone help,if someone needs the excel file to help

Hi I am making a tournament bracket. I made a sample test sheet with 8 entrants.
Protected
Un-protected
To make it work you just fill out the bracket (big cells with border). Over to the right you'll see winners. The winners are who one each specific game. For example: If F11=R9 then it will be correct. It'll be more clear when you Excel masters look at the unprotected sheet. IF statements are the most advanced thing I know in Excel. And now the question: What would be the best way to make a tournament bracket in Excel?
P.S.-There are 64 entrants. For the first round it will not be single elimination. People will vote on who they want and the best 32 will go on. Is there anyway to incorporate the 64 teams in this?
Thank you in advance =D

How do I set up a tournament bracket in Excel?

I want to create a tournament stlye bracket (like the NCAA tournament) for a
pool that I'm running. I am using excel 2003. Any help will be appreciated .

Thanks

Hi all,

So this is kind of an unusual request...

See, a buddy of mine sent me this EXCEL spreadsheet which - ah, to make
a long story short, is a "female celebrities" tournament generator that
automatically switches to a "female vs. female" picture - and then
generates an ultimate "winner picture" and has other functions.

It looks very complicated (i am a total newbie) - I can't even locate
the sheet where it contains the photos...

Basically, I want to try and edit it to do the following:

- Change the names of the celebs
- Change the photos for corresponding celebs
- Have the corresponding photo change every time it advances in a
bracket - i.e. be generated "randomly" from a group / list of a
specific sub-set of photos
- Increase the number of historically tracked winners (currently tracks
the Top 5).

At any rate, if anyone is willing to take a look at this sheet and help
me guide me, I'd be extremely grateful.

How can I create a drop down list from non-adjacent cells (redundant message
I know...sorry). I'm working on a tournament bracket and I would like to
only have to select two non-adjacent cells for my dropdown list rather than
the entire column worth of cells between the two. Is there perhaps a formula
that would exclude the emptly cells and only include in the dropdown list
those cells with names in them?
Thanks in advance

Alternatively, if someone has a template that has a similar function, that works as well.

I have a column of ages that I need to break into age ranges i.e number of people between 20 and 30, 30 to 40,40 to 50 and so on up to 100. I need to Convert these ages into something countable - letters A,B,C,D etc for each bracket and then count the letters. I know I eventually use a countif but how do I create these brackets? I imagine a bracket would be something like - if (>30 and

OK, for a small office pool, I have created a bracket with drop down lists
for the 64 teams (when selected). In C6 (team name), D6 (point value) i.e.,
C6 Florida, D6 1 point if winning. If Florida is also chosen in the second
round E8 Florida, f8 2 points, and repeated through rounds 3,4,5 and
championship, AND LOSES in any round, i would need that point value changed
to "zero" for any rounds that team is picked and has already lost. Am I
clear like mud? I have looked at several formats on Google, Microsoft and I
find them lacking in some respects.

I have all my formulas done for point totals accumulated, as well as
remaining points

I have now determined I need VBa for this instruction, and I'm just not that
capable.

Bear in mind, this is a 64 team bracket. I'm sure we have all seen these
before.

Is there any help for me? I can also email my bracket sheet if needed.

I greatly appreciate you have created a bracket in excel; I only offer the
suggestion because many people will get frustrated once they learned their
brackets will not be valid.

I simple unprotected the workbook and made updates, no need to reply

Oakland regional should be below Atlanta & Minneapolis should be below
Washington DC. regional

Hi -

Is there a template to manage tournament brackets and results?
I'm looking for a template where I can enter the number of teams playing,
and then havea templete where I enter results from the first bracket. The
template then calculates who advances to the next bracket, etc... until they
get to the finals. If there is a losers bracket, it tracks the losers to
their final.

I think this is not too difficult for me to make, I just wonder if someone
already has a snazzy version available.

Thanks!

Trying to create a cell formula from VBA that can return a cell reference or a text value. Since the formula I'm creating is bracketed by quotes (""), I can't put the text value (NA) in quotes. Is there a special wildcard to use to accomplish this?

Thank you,

Tony R

Hello all, I've been trying to find a spreadsheet that will track league games and track the information. Basically I want to have a schedule, a standings board and a tournament bracket. I've been googling this for about 2 hours now and I can't find anything I can use. The one excel file I found has information in the formula bar I don't understand. For example:

='ef-FT'!45

I'm kind of new to Excel so the numbers don't mean anything to me.

I was wondering if anyone could help me build this tracker. I want to be able to put the information into the schedule page, which will include who played and what the score at the end of the game was. Then I want that information to populate into the standings board. I would like to have the teams on the standing board listed by who leads in the standings. Then I would like it to automatically populate the bracket.

Is Excel even the right program for this? Is this overly complicated for someone not very experienced with Excel?

Thanks for the help guys.

I need to fill in many tournament drawsheets and want to use Excel to help the process. I'm using Excel 2007 and don't know much about using the program other than a few simple formulas.

I have it set up where I can copy a list of players from one column. I then use the players names in that column to populate the drawsheet in the correct cells.
Basic example:
I place the list of players in A1-A128
I place "=A1" in cell B12 (where the player in A1 should be in the tournament drawsheet)
I place "=A2" in cell B572 (where the player in A2 should be in the tournament drawsheet)
etc...
(mine is slightly more complicated than that, but this will serve as a good example to point out the issue I'm having)

The problem I need to resolve is I'd like to send this drawsheet without the list of players in A1-A64 showing and still have the drawsheet correctly show the players in the correct cells (spots in the drawsheet). Obviously, the way I'm doing it, as soon as I delete the list of players in A1-A128, all the players in the drawsheet are also deleted as they are just being copied from A1-A128.

Is there any way to copy the populated drawsheet (section of the excel spreadsheet) so I can use it with the names in the correct cells even without the list in A1-A128 showing on the excel spreadsheet?

Thanks in advance!!!

I am trying to sort my data automatically into brackets using a pivot table. I need the total sum of footage from a machine in order to come up with a run rate for the machine. So I need to sum every time a machine runs between 1 and 5000 feet so that I can divide the total feet (from multiple work orders) by the total run hours in order to come up with a run rate. My problem, however, is that when I create the brackets using the pivot table, when it goes to subtotal them it tries to keep them in the same brackets I established before. For example, the 1-5000 bracket would individually find the 1500, 1700, and 1900, which is good, but when it came to subtotal, it would put them in the 5001-7500. Is there any way to change the subtotal to get the grand total (5100) for the bracket to show up as the total for the 1-2000 bracket or is it always going to get put in the 5001-7500 subtotal bracket?

Sum of 1-5000: 1500
Sum of 1-5000: 1700
Sum of 1-5000: 1900
Total Sum of Sum of 5001-7500: 5100

How does the template update with the winners. Do you have to turn on
something to get the template to show the winners.

I am building a tournament bracket for the NCAA tournament an would like to compaire each persons picks with the actual results as a percent of correct picks per round.

Each persons picks are in a column (with blank rows) and the tournament results are in columns on a seperate sheet. Each round is a different column and there are no blank rows.

I want to compaire each round and return a percentage of correct picks per round to a third sheet 'standings'.

Thanks.

Hello, brand new to the forum and brand new to excel - hope this isn't a silly question!

I have successfully been able to return a word from two different cells (2 separate words) into one cell with the =IF formula. Now my question: is there a way to make excel return these two words with a "/" between them as in Kentucky/Alabama rather than KentuckyAlabama?

My formula is dealing with which Basketball team to place in the next round of a tournament bracket depending on the results of the last match-up. My formula looks like this:

If Column C is the scores and Column B are the teams, =IF(C28=C29,B28&IF(C28=C29,B29,IF(C28>C29,B28,B29)))

The idea is that if the game is 0-0, the cell would return Kentucky/Alabama. If Kentucky wins, it returns Kentucky, and if Alabama wins, it returns Alabama. The formula works for everything, but if it is 0-0 then it returns KentuckyAlabama. Is there any way to add that /?

TIA!

I have 2 different problems I need help solving.

I run pool leagues and tournaments where I have tournament brackets composed in EXCEL using IF statements to determine the winners and losers of the match then moving them to the correct location for the next match.

PROBLEMS:
1) All of this works fine using individual names, players or teams. What I am looking for is a way to have an individual team name associated with the 5 to 7 players who exactly played in the match. Now this group of players might change for every match.

2) I have a group of 5 players, 1st 2 players to reach 4 wins mores forward to different brackets on the winners side and the 3 other player move to 3 different brackets on the 1 Loss side. Tried IF statements but way too many possiblities to work with.

Any thoughts to solutions to either or both of these problems would be appreciated.

Thanks

Guys,
i found this tournament bracket online which is just what i need but i need to adapt to suit,i have started to formulate the cells so that whoever wins moves to the next bracket and i have managed to insert ISBLANK if no score is there, but what i also need is if C6 and C7 are score draws P9 i need to say "REPLAY"instead of somebodys name is there an easy way you can see to formulate this and by still keeping the cell balnk if no score is inputed thankyou

Hello,

I am creating an NCAA Basketball Bracket pool to determine and show who are
the winners of the tournament in the Final Four, the Finals, and lastly,
the National Champion.

What I need is some help in getting the VBA Worksheet_Change Event to work
properly when the Select Winners Per Round macro (found under the Macros
option on the menu bar) is selected and used to populate the winners of
each game.

For each winner in the Final Four, the Finals, and lastly, the National
Champion rounds, the names should be highlighted in the ranges, O56:R56,
O57:P57, and O58 and then respectively in the matching names in the range,
X23:X37.

For those interested in downloading and seeing the code/situation I am
describing I have uploaded the spreadsheet to my website found here:
http://members.dslextreme.com/users/...id/bracket.xls

I have tried a combination of this code, but cannot get it to work
correctly:

Set cellName = Range("X23:X37")
Set cellTest = Range("O56")
colorName = Cells(Application.WorksheetFunction.Match(cellTest,
cellName, 0) _
+ 22, 24).Address(False, False)
' Range("O56").Interior.ColorIndex = 4
Range(colorName).Interior.ColorIndex = 4

It ends up with errors either within the Worksheet_Change event or in the
testme() sub. Additionally, another option under Macros on the menu bar,
Select Winners Per Round macro, is the ability to go back to a previous
round to make corrections to the radio/option buttons selected. If this
is the case, then on a name change, the wrong name's ".Interior.ColorIndex"
should be changed to xlNone. This was also causing an error.

Feel free to test out my MsgBox code,* see below, in 'Sub testme()' to see
how the cells don't update until the form is closed.

I am probably pretty close, but I am just missing something to get it to
function correctly.

' MsgBox "rngO56 = " & Range("O56") & Chr(13) & "rngX23 = " &
Range("X23")
' If Range("O56").Value = Range("X23").Value Then 'rngO56 = rngX23 Then
' MsgBox "boo!"
' Range("X23").Interior.ColorIndex = 4
' Else
' MsgBox "who!"
' Range("X23").Interior.ColorIndex = xlNone
' End If

Please let me know if anyone has any questions as needed. I am hoping to
have this finished by Sunday, March 13.

Thanks much,

Paul
