Excel/Vba code EXAMPLES.

Hi

I have just started to learn the beauty of using excel/vba to create webpages. Basically, i want to create an excel spreadsheet with multiple worksheets in it (one worksheet for each letter of the alphabet, 26 in total ). Each worksheet will contain details of customers starting with that alphabet letter i.e under worksheet 'a', all customers that have names with 'a' will be listed and all customers with name 'b' will be listed in worksheet 'b' etc etc. Once the user has inputed the information, the spreadsheet automatically creates a webpage. The user can then simply view the webpage opposed to viewing the excel spreadsheet. If the user wants to add more customers they can edit the spreadsheet and this will be refelcted in the webpage. For an experienced excel/vba developer, this may seem like childsplay! however i have been trying various ways, but cant seem to figure it out. Is there any similar examples available on the interent? or has anyone developed something similar.

Your help would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Hi All,

I need an excel vba code to use for updating an access database file.

File Name> C:TEST.mdb
Table Name> Spec (It includes 5 columns and 400 rows)

I wrote a code but need the critical part.

	VB:

DataExcelToAccess()

    Dim con As ADODB.Connection, rs As ADODB.Recordset

    Set con = New ADODB.Connection
    con.Open "Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0; " & "Data Source=C:TEST.mdb;"
    Set rs = New ADODB.Recordset
    rs.Open "Spec", con, adOpenKeyset, adLockOptimistic, adCmdTable

    .......

     'I need a code here that take the value from Range("A1") and export it to
     'access table "Spec" to row 52 and column 4 (column 4's name is "value")

    .......

    rs.Close
    Set rs = Nothing
    cn.Close
    Set cn = Nothing

End Sub

Thanks for your attention.

hi all,

At the moment I directly open the *pri file in our Portfolio program called Advent Axys, and manually update the ticker prices using a downloaded Excel format file from the BigCharts website which is saved as csv extension.
What I would like to do is develop a stand alone program in Visual Basic ( not in Excel VBA) to update the price file in our Portfolio system automatically using the downloaded Excel format file csv extention file from the BigCharts.
But before that, I need to export the *.pri file from our Portfolio system in to Excel which still saves as *.pri extention.
Then once it updates, I import the updated *.pri file back in our Portfolio program.
I understand that the Excel VBA code can be incorporated in Visual Basic code provided there is an object declaration for Excel file (In this case eventhough the both files are in Excel format, they don't have xls extention). Would anyone have any ideas about how to use external files and Excel VBA code in Visual Basic?

Below is the code that I currently have in Visual Basic. What I'm trying to accomplish is using the ticker (eg. msft) as a keyword search to look up in the price file. If found , the price of that ticker from the test.csv file will be copied in to the price file which is test.pri. I haven't ran it yet. Any thoughts or advice on this will be much appreciated.
Thank u so much
P.S Not able to upload the 2 files since their extention is different

Is it possible to print Excel VBA code in color please? (i.e. comments in green etc.) Thanks!

Hi, I was wondering if somwone would be able to give me a hand with some Excel / VBA Code. Im trying to write some code to delete rows in a worksheet that have negative numbers in a particualr column - in the attached worksheet (Delete any row that has a negative number in any cell in column J ). Im new to Excel Programming, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers and thanks in advance!
Aussie!

Is there a way to programmatically determine (i.e., using
VBA code) which rows and/or columns are outlined on an
Excel spreadsheet?

I have spreadsheets with three different groups of columns
outlined (one level of outline demotion each - no
overlap). The specific columns that are outlined change
based on the data. I would like to write VBA code to 1)
programmatically determine the groups of outlined columns,
and then, 2) reduce the number of outlined columns in one
of the groups (the third one).

Example using R1C1 reference notation: Outlined
columns: 1, 5-12, and 19-40

My goal is to reduce the third outline group by the first
three columns of the group. In this case group 19-40
would have columns 19-21 promoted by using code like
Range(Cells(1, 19), Cells(1, 21)).Select
Selection.Columns.Ungroup

It is easy to promote the columns manually, but it is a
pain to do over and over again at the end of an otherwise
automated process (VBA code) that is formatting the
spreadsheet.

For the curious - why do I want to promote three columns
programmatically? VBA code is used to extensively format
an Excel file including adding lookup table data as new
worksheets, adding formulas that use the VLOOKUP function,
a macro button and code "behind" the button to provide
sort options, borders, outlining to hide some cost history
columns and future projections columns so a window of data
around the current month data is displayed and the report
is constrained to one print page wide on 11" wide by 17"
high tabloid size paper at about 64% reduction, etc. The
data includes hours and dollars totals for labor,
material, travel, etc. A "values only" summary of the
totals rows is created as a separate (11" wide by 8-1/2"
high when printed) "Summary" sheet. Additional
calculations are added to the summary sheet
programmatically. Some columns at the right side of the
data are not needed on the summary sheet. These columns
are deleted. This leaves the summary sheet "viewable
print data" not as wide as the area available. Removing
three columns from the hidden outline of the future months
fills the page and shows more data.

The kind of outlining I am referring to has to do with how
to show or hide detail data (i.e., rows and/or columns) in
an outline. If you enter this phrase, "Show or hide
detail data in an outline", in the Help Answer Wizard you
will see how outlining is done manually.

I want to programmatically determine which columns
are "outlined" (i.e., can be shown by a click on a "+"
button in the margin of the spreadsheet outside the grid
area or hidden easily by a click on a "-" button in the
margin of the spreadsheet outside the grid area. I assume
there is a collection where this data is stored (something
like columns.outline or some such).

Thanks for any help.

I have been tasked with converting the following C# code to Excel VBA. The C# code successfully gets an HTTP authentication. Of course there will be more to the task, I've just shown here up to the point I'm stuck on, which is getting the HTTP authentication.

First, my Excel VBA code. I have changed the email, password, and source parameters for posting here. Also, I have not included my Get_XMLHTTP_Object and Get_XML_DOMDocument_Object functions as they correctly return their desired objects:

The result from running this is that there are no child nodes (xmldoc.ChildNodes.Length = 0), but I get what looks to me like valid SID, and the error is as follows:

Here's the C# code. Again, this works correctly, though for posting here I've changed the sensitive parameters so this exact sample won't work:

	VB:

using System;
using System.Linq;
using System.Xml.Linq;
using System.Collections.Generic;
namespace AnalyticsData
{
class Program
{
Private Const String AuthenticationUrl = "https://www.google.com/accounts/ClientLogin";
Private Const String AuthenticationPost =
"accountType=HOSTED&Email=MyEmail@MyServer.com&Passwd=MyPassword&service=analytics&source=MySource";

Private static String auth;
static void Main(string[] args)
{
auth = GetAuthentication();

Console.Write(auth);
}

And here's the C# code's GetAuthentication function:

	VB:

GetAuthentication()
{
String key = null;
String result = HttpRequest.HttpPostRequest(AuthenticationUrl, AuthenticationPost);
var tokens = result.Split(New string[] { "n" }, StringSplitOptions.RemoveEmptyEntries);
foreach (var item In tokens)
{
If (item.StartsWith("Auth="))
key = item;
}
return key;
}

Any idea what I'm doing wrong?

Again with the real parameters, the C# code works correctly.

Thanks,

Greg

Hi everyone,

I have a protected Word document in which an Excel workbook is embedded (also protected, both on the worksheet and workbook level) used as a rate chart in a form contract). In using the following code (that I got from this forum - thank you for that), the non-scrolling works properly while I have the Word document open, but after I re-protect and close the document, the VBA code in the embedded workbook is lost when I reopen it:

	VB:

Worksheet_Activate()
    Me.ScrollArea = "A1:H17"
End Sub

I am sure it is something simple that I am overlooking, but I would appreciate any help. Thanks!

I am very experienced with Access (still using DAO though) and VBA inside of Access (built some nice applications using these). I also have familiarity with ASP coding using ADO connections (so I am familiar with ADO too, but not with Access).

Anyway, I have a scenario where I need to siphon in a text file (fixed width format), which contains product information. There are 480 of these files, each containing anywhere from 10 to 10,000 items (one item per line - normal sort of thing).

Well, I was going to do this in Access 2000 (which is the platform we use, Office 2000), but it coughs no matter what I do. Even Excel coughed until I simply renamed the file to ".txt" instead of how they come (as a ".upc"). Anyway, after a bunch of grunt work (because the fixed width file format document was not correct, off by a character here and there), I created an Excel Template file, which works great to open up any of the 480 ".upc" files, so that is working.

However, now I need to automate this process, to turn all of these ".upc" fixed width formatted files, into Excel 2000 spreadsheets, so that my Access program can import them. This is where I have the problem, I am not familiar with Excel VBA (and I am surprised it seems so foreign to me, as I know Access VBA very well).

I recorded a Macro, and here is the code it generated:
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Workbooks.Open Filename:= _
"E:Work_FoldersCISCustom_Software_DevelopmentSeneca_OpticalSpexUPC_TestUPC.XLT" _
, Editable:=True
ChDir "E:Work_FoldersCISCustom_Software_DevelopmentSeneca_OpticalSpexUPC"
ActiveWorkbook.SaveAs Filename:= _
"E:Work_FoldersCISCustom_Software_DevelopmentSeneca_OpticalSpexUPCb0028.UPC.xls" _
, FileFormat:=xlNormal, Password:="", WriteResPassword:="", _
ReadOnlyRecommended:=False, CreateBackup:=False

ActiveWorkbook.Close
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

I want to do three things, and a point in the right direction should be all that is needed (and MUCH appreciated).

1) I want to make the path relative, as this spreadsheet will be in the same folder as the Excel template ("upc.xlt"), and the folder with the data files is only down one level and in the "SpexUPC" folder. (I tried turning these into standard relative, such as "UPC.XLT" and then "..SpexUPC" for the change directory command.

2) I want to open, in order (alpha order as listed in the folder I guess, but however), the ".upc" file into the "upc.xlt" template and then save as the upc data file's name, but then a ".xls" at the end. (Thus, "b0028.UPC" would become "b0028.UPC.xls")

3) Finally, I want to automate this process (in a loop) to process all the ".upc" files in the "SpexUPC" folder.

Fairly simple...

Then in my Access program I will be automating siphoning these Excel spreadhseets into Tables. And then continuing the process for this program (an inventory management program).

A little help from a fellow programmer would be awesome!!! Some direction, links to articles relating to such (with VBA code examples, I learn best with examples).

Thanks in advance,

Colin

Besides the 'Sample' code provided with XL97 & XL2000 does
anyone have a good working example of EXCEL 2000 opening,
inquiry, reads and updates to ACCESS 2000 tables.

Download should contain the ACCESS MDB, tables and EXCEL
VBA code to access ACCESS....

Hi,

In excel VBA code, I have:

If ActiveCell.Column =1 Then
Msg "It is Column A Only"
Else
Msg "It is NOT Column A"
End If

But How can I check if the selection is actually More than Column A.
Example: When user select cell in column A (A11) and cell in column B (B11),
if use above code, it will still prompt "It is Column A Only". I want to
avoid that because B11 is included.

I think I should have something like:

If ActiveCell.Column =1 Then
' Check if there is other column included
If there is other column than column A included
Msg "Warning, it's NOT only Column A"
Else
Msg "It is Column A Only"
End If
Else
Msg "It is NOT Column A"
End If

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

As far as I know, there is no code in Excel that is
secure, even with passwords. There's always someone
selling password cracking software. You might be able to
write this Excel VBA code in VB6, and give to your client
an executable program that can't be cracked. I'm not sure
if it would work in your case, but you might want to
investigate this some more.

I'm new at writing Excel VBA code this way in VB6. I've
got some simple programs to work and they work perfectly.
If you need more specific questions, I hope one of the
experts with this type of programming can help.

Hey Guys.

I was wondering if someone could help me.

Right now, I am working on automating the generation of reports from an
Excel source file. As you could imagine, the Excel file is getting
ridiculuously huge and the cleanup scripts I wrote are taking longer and
longer as more and more records come in.

I have used Access in the past and am porting over the data over there as a
central storage. (This way the information is in a db and it is
easier/quicker to manage.) I already wrote scripts to slice the data as
needed and export it to excel. From here I run the report generation scripts.
So I am going Excel-->Access-->Excel.

My question is: Is there anyway to do all these steps within excel using
VBA? Essentially, how do I open up Access and run the modules I need to using
excel VBA?

For example, I open up a separate sheet with the code, and it will import
the information into Access, run the Access scripts, export to Excel, and run
the Excel scripts. I know how to write code for excel and access separately,
but not together.

I really appreciate any assistance you could provide.

Thanks.

I want VBA code to send formated output to printer from EXCELL spread sheet

A few days back, I posted a similar message to the main Access newsgroup,
due to a situation with a networked Access database, concerning VBA code
behind an Access user form. The feedback suggested that I re-save the Access
..mdb file as an .mde, and that seems to have solved the issue.

Now it's happened again, but in an Excel workbook. The workbook has much VBA
code, and the subroutines run in response to custom menu items. These subs
have been running for several years with no problems. The sole user of the
workbook has now encountered a compile error and tells me that the VBA shows
her a single exclamation point highlighted in that (dratted) yellow. (The
Access error involved an unintended period.)

Anyone here seen a character like a period or exclamation point inserted
unintentionally and systemically into an Excel VBA module? I really doubt
that it was done maliciously and intentionally, although of course that's
possible.

Hello,

I would like to know how to set up Excel VBA code to limit an user from inputting something that is not divisible by 50. For example, I am setting up an order form for colleagues to order some educational fact sheets. These sheets are printed in packs of 50 - so they would have to order quantities in numbers divisible by 50. I would like to inform them to order in multiples of 50 only * AND * automatically round anything they input EITHER up or down by 50. That is, if they enter 418 it rounds down to 400, if they enter 469 it rounds up to 500.

I am hoping that this formula will automatically round based on the user's input. I have several rows with 5 cells per row that users can input quantities into. I want to be able to round all of these rows.

Thank you so very much!

Hi all,

I am new to the forum. Excel's security isn't very robust. Even if I password protect the VBA code I've written, it could be easily cracked. Therefore, I would like to improve security of the code by "porting" the Excel VBA code I've written into a DLL or XLL file.

Right now my spreadsheet is entirely automated by VBA. I'd like to rewrite the VBA code so that it basically only calls up the DLL/XLL. The DLL/XLL, which would contain the majority of the code, would then execute the applicable subroutines/functions requested by the user. This would hopefully improve the security and make it easier for me to maintain since all I would need to do is update/modify the DLL/XLL file, not the spreadsheet.

THE PROBLEM:
I have never created a DLL/XLL before and I'm not experienced in VB, C++, etc (only Excel VBA), so I need a little guidance on the following:
1. Is the approach I've described the best approach to maximize code security? If not, what would you recommend?

Assuming the DLL/XLL approach is best,...
2. What is the Excel VBA command(s) needed to call up the DLL/XLL?
3. What commands are needed within the DLL/XLL file to communicate with/control the Excel spreadsheet?
4. Can I copy and paste the Excel VBA code I've written "as is" into the DLL/XLL or do I need to convert it to VB in order for it to work?
5. Do I need to manually add the DLL/XLL as a Reference or can it all be done programmatically without needing an explicit reference (preferred)?

My VBA skills are only at an intermediate level, so it would be helpful if you would provide examples or err on the side of being detailed in your response so I don't have to ask too many follow-up questions. :-)

Thank you in advance for your help!

Hi,

I have developed an application in Excel 2002/XP to handle a spreadsheet.In order to make the execution faster I want to compile the VBA-code into mashinecode. The ”Visual Basic Editor” in Excel can only find compiling errors, but not ”compile”. The application works fine, but I want it faster.

- Which ”tool/s” do I need to compile code written in Excel 2002 and 2003?
- Are there any free downloads so I can try out the technique before bying something?
- Is there any software that only compiles (I actually don’t need a complex developing environment)?

Thanks

Hi all,

I wanted to poke around the heads of your VBA gurus to find out if it would be possible to run SAS code via excel vba?

Ive done a number of google searches but keep getting SAS to Excel information, when im looking for Excel to SAS.

The codes are all pre-written and at most require no or only modest ajustments (dates etc).

Is it possible to interface with SAS the same way you can interface with business objects?

I currently have a model that can run many BO reports, ajust variables then save them down, but i wanted to see if i could do the same with SAS.

Cheers all,

Mark

Hi all,

I am currently writing excel vba code on one of the worksheets page in vb editor...

The excel workbook is acted as a "shell" that will be used by an Access model which will fire off the Access vba code and automatically open the "shell" to feed in values from Access forms to the "shell". Therefore, in Access vba code, there is an excel application object being created...

Is there any vba statement that I can write on my code in excel workbook that it automatically tells me what excel application object the Access has created?

Any advice would help !!!

No luck finding an answer? You could always try Google.
