add, multiply then divide

Hi All,
I am not a regular user as you will certainly tell of Excel, but am trying to come up with a worksheet for our company that computes how long it takes to complete certain steps of an installation job. What I need to do, in one column is to put a numerical value in minutes, this will be over several cells, then have it add those numbers, multiply it by 150, which is the number of items I am setting it up to figure, then divide that number by 60, to come up with total hours to complete the job. Hope that makes sense and thanks to anyone offering any help.

What I am needing is a formula to list the result of multiplying cell A1 by.75 in cell B1, and then divide cell B1(the result of A1) by 52, which the result will be in Cell C1. For example:

Cell A1 is $50,000, and it is the only cell that has information typed in on the sheet. I enter the formula I need. Now Cell B1 shows $37,500( or 50,000x .75), and Cell C1 shows 721.15( or 37,500 /52).

The formula I am asking for will fill B1 and C1 with the appropriate information.

Any help would be great.

Thanks,

CB

Hello,

I have a file with a few columns with prices that are in this format -
$00.00 (with a point, not comma). Is it possible to quickly change all
values in a column, for example increasing all prices in a column with
4$ or a certain percentage. I tried with Paste Special, but it's not
working for some reason. I guess it's because Excel is not treating the
values in the $00.00 format as numbers. So is there any way to convert
the prices to numbers and then after doing Paste Special (with
add/multiply) to them to convert them back to the original format? I
have attached a sample file to show what I'm trying to do (in case my
explanations are not making much sense , sorry for the bad english).
Hope someone can help me with this.

Thank you very much in advance.

I have a long inventory spread sheet. In column B I have category numbers for inventory items...I need to add multipliers to those items in column C. Is there a formula that will find all items in category 125 and drop in a multiplier of .2657 and then find all category 210 items and drop in a multiplier of .1168 in column c?

item category multiplier
col a col b col c
xyz item 125 .2657
zbc item 125 .2657
jkl item 210 .1168

I want to compute how many file I close each month, then divide to see what
is my monthly average.

I currently do something like =SUM(I4:I7)/5 and then each month just replace
the last number with how many months have gone by, but is there a way to have
it just divide by the number of months without having to remember to change
the formula each month

I am trying to subtract date hired from today's date and then divide the
difference by 365

Hi All,

I have 2 columns containing In Time and Not in Time. I need to count the amount of In times in the 2 Columns, then divide it by the total number of instances In time and Not in Time occur in column A, so the answer comes out as a percentage.

i have attached an example for you to play with.

I have tried using Counta to work out the total number of rows in Column a have been used.

Countif on A & B to count the number of times In Time Occurs.

IE In Time occurs 7 times (in cols A & B) and there are 8 entries in Col A so 7/8=88%

I hope this makes sense.

Looking forward to your suggestions

Hi

I am working with a lot of arrays, and I want to be sure that I am coding
most efficiently. I have to add multiply and divide arrays, so for example I
want to take
Array1(100) +5*Array2(100), but it doesnt look like I can just say

Array3(100)=Array1(100) +5*Array2(100)
I have to code

For i = 1 to 100
Array3(i)=Array1(i)+Array2(i)*5
Next i

Is that how you deal with arrays, by using For loops?

Thanks for your help

Hello,

I am trying to create a gradebook for about 300 students. Is there a way to batch-edit functions, and also to allow flexibility in formulas for a varying number of columns?

What I want to do is this: I have the students' names in A. Their grades go horizontally in columns B through Last column - 1. In the last column, I want to show the students' percentages. Each column represents one assignment, and since I don't yet know the total number of graded assignments, I want this to be flexible without requiring the rewriting of every formula.

Is there a way to, for example, click on a column (the "final" column of my gradebook) and insert a formula that basically says, "for each row, take every value in cells from column B through the column before this, add together, then divide by the sum of the "points possible" row (row 1)"?

Clear as mud? Since all I want to do is have each row add all its numerical values together, however many there are, and then divide by the sum of all values in the "total points possible" row, I don't want to have to encode the same formula, varying only for which row I'm in, 300 times!

Thanks everyone,
Michael

Having trouble with a formula. Not very experienced. Maybe you guys can help. Example: My data has a classifier in column J. If cell J34 and cell J42 has a "1", I want to multiply G34 times H34 and then add this to G42 times H42 and then divide this by the sum of G34 and G42 for a weighted average.

Thanks in advance for any help

I'm sure this is simple to all, except this guy.

C:11 reveals 537

T:11 I need to preform from C:11
subtract 200, then divide by 12, then multiply by 1

Thank You

Hello guys.
i ran across another question (out of curiosity) and was wondering if you guys might be able to help.
is it possible to have excel calculate the difference of time from a value in a cell.
and then part B is to add times together (or multiply)
example: if a person is working 6:30 a day for 5 days. it should generate a value of 32:30

spreadsheet attached.

thanks for your help.
i scratched my head at this for about an hour, then i figured i ask you guys.

I am needing to multiply E5 by 4, then if N44 is <150 I need to divide E5 by 3.33, if N44 is less than 300 I need to divide by 2.50 and if it is more then 300 I then need to divide by 1.66. This formula will go into J66 and I need the results to appear as X Hours.

Is it possible to do this I have played about a little but this is beyond my knowledge. Thanks.

I'm new to excel & have figured out how to make some basic formulas but I really need some help with this one.

Lets say I have 4 columns A, B, C, & D
I need a formula to add B,C,D, then multiply that total by 10%, then round that total to the nearest hundredth, but if column A is larger then I want column A to be the answer.

Thanks for any help.

I recently found a bit of useful code in the forum that enabled me to add a button and then centered it on the activecell.

I tried unsuccessfully to find it again but I believe it was posted by Norie. The code is as follows:

	VB:

ActiveSheet.Buttons.Add ActiveCell.Left, ActiveCell.Top, ActiveCell.Width, ActiveCell.Height

If you like these VB formatting tags please consider sponsoring the author in support of injured Royal Marines
It works great, but I would like to add code that would immediately activate the button just added and allow me to format it in VBA, change the size, text, assign to a macro, etc.

Is there a way of condensing this calculation so that if offsets from P5 - the number of columns stipulated in S4 and adds the numbers in those cells together and then divides by the number in S4?

The columns move as data is added so I used a blank column (P) as a fixed point to work from.

=SUM(OFFSET(P5,0,-1)+OFFSET(P5,0,-2)+OFFSET(P5,0,-3)+OFFSET(P5,0,-4)+OFFSET(P5,0,-5)+OFFSET(P5,0,-6)+OFFSET(P5,0,-7)+OFFSET(P5,0,-8))/8

Very strange question I know!

I have 3 children aged 7 6 and 2 and I want to teach them Excel Sure I can just like you with ease!!!

My question I assure you means so much to me, and thank you excel times for any suggestions you have, they can add and subtract very well say to 100 or 200.

My question is I need real example of what’s hard to add and multiply and subtract.

Say 97 + 14 is hard for a 6 year old, can you please supply me with hard simple questions I can teach my children [ no trick questions] just ones that will make you think.

33+33 = 99 is common mistake, thing like this you might have seem.

Also any simple mistakes on Excel, poor addition, or whatever.

I plan to keep this feed alive and top it so we can add.

You not helping Jack of cause but my children, so my thanks to you is absolute and in return I will try even more to VBA solutions on this site to guys that need my help / our help

Jack like to give and not take!

From my 3 sons thank you, thank you very much

Jack in the UK
Please not how to use Excel – we all have that on covered, just simple add / multiply and so on. So I can site WITHOUT Excel and they can learn, then they can use excel as they do now!!

Thank you guys – from the heart – I promised my loved son Charlie I would ask for him.

I am putting together a table that has the start month, duration of project, end month and total cost of renovation for several construction projects. What I would like to do is be able to look up the total monthly cost that is occurring in a specific month. As an example, if I am looking for a certain month I will need a formula that looks up if that month is between the dates in column A and C and then returns the corresponding value in column D divided by the number of months in column B. I know that for month 25 the monthly cost will be ($6,000,000/8 + $4,500,000/6), I just don't know how to lay this out formulaicly (sumifs, suproducts, arrays?). Also, one added layer is that if the month that I am looking for does not have any cost, I need to return 0 and not a #value.

Start Month
Duration
End Month
Total Cost
25 8 32 $6,000,000 25 6 30 $4,500,000 26 6 31 $2,400,000 26 6 31 $900,000 26 8 33 $300,000 28 8 35 $3,600,000 28 8 35 $1,950,000 28 8 35 $900,000 29 8 36 $3,600,000 30 8 37 $600,000 30 8 37 $1,350,000

Thanks in advance for your help!

Hello to all!.
I add a custom menu to my excel right-click menu:

s = "Cell"
Application.CommandBars(s).Controls.Add Type:=msoControlButton, Before:=Application.CommandBars(s).Controls.Count + 1, Temporary:=True
Application.CommandBars(s).Controls(Application.CommandBars(s).Controls.Count).OnAction = "NNN2"
Application.CommandBars(s).Controls(Application.CommandBars(s).Controls.Count).Caption = "Show somethins"
Application.OnKey "%z", "NNN2"

As you see this menu items added to the end of right-click menu, but I also want a divide horisontal line above it, to divide this item from the others. How can I do this?

Cells B19 - M19 all could have a value. Cell N19 needs to not only add all the values of B19:M19, but then divide by the number of cells that actually have a value.

Any help would be much appreciated!

Hi All

Don Guillett kindly made some code to change the content of a column of
numbers :

Sub Add_Subtract_Multiply_Divide_Selected_Column()
'
Selection.NumberFormat = "0.00"
Dim mc, lr As Long
Dim row1value, dowhat, x As String
mc = ActiveCell.Column
lr = Cells(Rows.Count, mc).End(xlUp).Row
If lr = 1 Then Exit Sub
dowhat = InputBox("A to Add, D to Divide, M to Multiply, S to Subtract")
Select Case UCase(dowhat)
Case "A": x = xlAdd
Case "D": x = xlDivide
Case "M": x = xlMultiply
Case "S": x = xlSubtract
Case Else
MsgBox "Not a choice - Please Try Again."
Exit Sub
End Select
row1value = Cells(1, mc)
Cells(1, mc) = InputBox("Vary Number By How Much?")
Cells(1, mc).Copy
Range(Cells(2, mc), Cells(lr, mc)).PasteSpecial _
Paste:=xlPasteAll, Operation:=x
Application.CutCopyMode = False
Cells(1, mc) = row1value

End Sub

I need a modification of this so that it applies itself just to the
range of cells I select within the column , rather than to the whole
column.

Can someone help with this?

Any advice appreciated.

Best Wishes

Is this even possible? I have custom data in cells that contain letters and
numbers that I need to divide by 4 to one column and multiply by 5 into
another column. I need to duplicate it over 12,000 times. Here is an
example:
Primary cell contains 'B-3Y30' where 'B' remains constant and 'Y' equals 48.
Divide cell then reads 'B-43 1/2' and the multiply cell then reads 'B-18Y6'.
The divide cell converts 'Y' to 48 then times 3, adds 30 and divides by 4.
The multiply cell converts 'Y' to 48 then times 3, adds 30, multiplies by 5
and changes the sum to number of "Y's" at 48 with under 48 as the actual
number. Also, the 'B' varies to other letters and sometimes 2 or 3
characters (AXX or RN) and all need to remain constant. I can send an
example of a few if needed. Pretty wild huh? Any help will be appreciated.

Hello!

This is my first time posting here. I am trying to create a formula to get
a specific result. I will explain what I need to do and then give a example
of numbers with the correct answer. The problem that I am having when typing
it in is that there is an error. So if someone could tell me how to type
this formula properly, I would appreciate it.

I need to add several numbers: then divide: then subtract 35: then multiply
by 85%.

Number example: 50+50+50+=150 / 3 = 50 - 35 = 15 * 85% = 12.75

Thanks in advance for your help.

I just started using MS Excel 2003 and am trying to make a spread sheet which
is for an company expense sheet...and I want to be able to multiply many of
the cells by constant number of US Dollars per British Pounds (1.818 dollars
per Pound), so that I can covert the number of pounds my employes have spent,
into dollars.

Can anyone help me, it sounds easy, but I dont know how to use or create
macros yet. I have used the function button to add, subtract, multiply and
divide values in single cells.
