Query to MSN Stock Scouter

Is it possible to create queries for MSN Stock Scouter rankings on a column
of stock
symbols consisting of, say, 100 stock symbols?

The link to Microsoft's basic html link to obtain a Stock Scouter rank is
shown below, with the symbol for Microsoft (symbol=MSFT) as shown at the end
of the link:

http://moneycentral.msn.com/investor...sp?Symbol=msft

So, I'm hoping to use the above link for a single column of about 100
symbols, which will change weekly, on a spreadsheet, with the accompanying
Stock Scouter score queried and displayed in an accompanying column. The
two confusing (for me) problems I have with this objective are:

1) The symbols for the single column will change weekly, and it would be
useful if Excel could accomodate the change.
2) I don't quite understand how to use the HTML link above in context of the
changing symbols and what gets displayed in each cell. All I'm interested
in obtaining is the numeric score for each symbol without any additional
information from the page. That is, I'm not sure how to extract the numeric
score
from the 'special box' in which it appears.

If this is possible to do with Excel, can instructions be posted for a
technophobe on how to do this?

Thank you for any assistance.

I have been using the external data command to import stock quotes using the
saved query that comes pre-installed with Excel. I have been using it for
over three years, but recently when I open the workbook, I get an error
stating "unable to open the web site Moneycentral/external/....". Then today
it started working again! Was this a problem with MSN Moneycentral or was
there a problem in my Excel?

Hi All
I use web queries to download stock options from MSN Money.
If I manually refresh the queries (right click -refresh) the downloaded
prices are in number format.

If I use:
Sub Query_All ()
    ActiveWorkbook.RefreshAll
    ActiveWorkbook.Save
End Sub
the numbers are in text format. I need the numbers in number
format but like the simple way of Query_All to do a refresh.
How do I achieve this?
Would also like to run this macro in background.

Thanks
Al

Have been using a spreadsheet (excel 2007) for years that keeps track of a share portfolio. It uses an external connection to MSN Money Stock Quotes to obtain current prices for ASX listed shares.

However in recent weeks the external connection has stopped updating. I have tried refreshing the connection and it refreshes however the data obtained is not accurate or up-to-date.

Has anyone experienced this and if so how did you fix it?

Cheers

Mactime

yesterday - msn stock updates quit working - error msgs indicated "failed to
get requested data" and "no internet connection" when selected on line help
from within excel - however all internet connections are fine - I assume
failure within excel is due to some security/ firewall/ ect. update and I
don't know how to make the exception for msn & excel or where to find the
right button to push.
Thank you,

I have installed and enabled the MSN stock quote add-in for Excel 2007 on
Vista.
It fails to update the cells where the formulas are entered. Is there a fix
for this problem?

I used MSN Stock Quotes in Excel 2002. Now I am using a copy of the same
spreadsheet in Excel 2007. How do I edit (e.g., add a new stock symbol) MSN
Stock Quotes in Excel 2007?

Hi, All -

I have an application that uses a web query to retrieve stock quote
data. The query is created by a VBA program which looks up a ticker
list and builds the URL query string for the tickers in the list.

Strangely, I've found that if I leave the query sitting in the
spreadsheet, sometimes it starts to consume 100% CPU resources even if
I state add ".RefreshPeriod =0" to keep it from trying to update
itself.

Is there a way to get rid of the query object itself while keeping the
data it returned?

TIA,
David

Have been using the MSN Stock quote add-in quite successfully for long time to obtain stock information such as company name, exchange, shares outstanding, market capitalization, until now. Recently a number of my updates return #VALUE! in the field (sometimes 1 cell eg. exchange is updated but company name is not). Most of stocks are Canadian prefaced with CA: although do update for other countries as well such as US:, AU:. Many of the stocks are smaller companies with limited trading.I know the stock symbols are correct & quotes can be found on MSN Money Central website.

At times I recieve #VALUE! and if I play with the ticker (e.g. delete a letter and then change it back again) it sometimes works. Seems to be no rhyme nor reason

When inserting stock quotes I use Canada but have also used US.

Have uninstalled & reinstalled the add-in and it is checked. Under Autocorrect have smart tags operating.

Using :
OS Name Microsoft Windows XP Professional
Version 5.1.2600 Service Pack 2 Build 2600

Application name Microsoft Excel
Version 11.0
Build 8146

Has there been changes to the MSN stock quote add-in or mircosoft updates which are interferring with the operation of this add-in?

Is there a limit to how many stock tickers can be updated?

What could I be doing wrong?

Looking to upgrading to Office 2007 - is there a similar add-in & can I continue to my exisiting spreadsheets & templates which use the MSN stock quote. (does the 2002/2003 add-in also work for 2007?)

This add-in is critical to what I do. Any assistance is very much appreciated.

Thanks
LJR

I cannot get the MSN Stock Quotes to work in the 2007 Beta edition of Excel.

The Add-In is loaded, but always gives me the #NA error.

Anyone have an answer? Thank you.

Greetings!

I have a macro that I run which (among other things) executes a bunch of web queries to fetch stock & option prices by way of RefreshAll. There are LOTS of queries. Over time, some of these become non-functional (especially options quotes which expire every month). So I'm often getting the "web query returned no data" error. What I want to do is make it so that those errors are ignored and the RefreshAll can continue without my intervention.

While we're on the subject, does anyone know how to identify WHICH queries are non-functional? When I do the Refresh All (in the macro or manually), I just get pop-up error messages which tell me there's a web query "no results" problem, but it doesn't tell me WHERE, and when I click "OK", the refresh continues. So I never get the opportunity to see which one(s), and the message itself gives me no clues.

Thanks!

I have installed the MSN stock quote add-in for Excel. It works as I had hoped, however I am kind of stuck on trying to save the results. I would like to build a macro to run an update and store the results to a txt file. When I try to do this the txt or csv file contains "#NAME?" for all the stock quotes. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

My worksheets depends heavily on the MSN Stock quote add-in. Has become rather tempermental as of late but today is completely not working ~ know I am testing limits of the 200 quotes but have been able in past to work -around.

Earlier this week had to replace hard drive & reinstall Office (2007). Reinstalled the MSN stock quote add-in. Thought all was OK but today when I googled microsoft to redownload add-in- download page for add-in is no longer found.

What is happening????? Are Microsoft/MSN no longer supporting is is there something I am missing on my setup of Excel? Have there been changes to how the add-in works?

what happened to the excel msn stock quote add-in download page at microsoft?
The download page is missing...

anyone has an alternate source to get it? i depend on it a lot, and need to install it on a new laptop...

here is the link page if anyone wants to check:

I have a workbook which I use to update stock market information using queries to external data. Every time I open the workbook I get a message asking whether I want to enable automatic refresh of the queries. It only requires one click to select it but it's annoying. Is there a way to bypass this message when opening the workbook?

Hi experts. I want to send a automated query to aspx and get result in excel and then if found a specific word in result page then copy content of that page to excel. Hello,

Is it possible to write an excel query to get data from a different tab. Mainly I have an access query that get > 100 records of students. I have a tab for each student with the name..and some info at the top. I would like to display their records at the bottom. What is the best way to do that? Thank you

I have been brousing this site for information. Wonderful site! I figured out how to use a combobox to select which query to run but need to use a second combobox for the selection. 1st combobox would select a product to sort which would open a 2nd combo box to select a metric to sort on. My sheet has headings as follows:
PRODUCT 1_______________PRODUCT2______________PRODUCT3
SOM TREND_______________SOM TREND ____________SOM TREND
There are up to 8 products to choose from and usualy 4 metrics.
Here is the code I am using to select a macro from one combo box.

	VB:

 SortSelect()

    Select Case SortSelect.Value 'Combobox
    Case Is = "Portfolio"
        SortPortfolio
    Case Is = "Product1"
        SortProduct1
    Case Is = "Product2"
        SortProduct2
    Case Is = "Product3"
        SortProduct3

    End Select

End Sub

Hi!

I use web query to get some range of data. This data is refresing and changing on some time (i set query refresh on 1 minute). So, i'd like to fetch this data and make the table with all data (new data on eg. every 1 minute). How to do this?
I use Excel 2003.

Oz Grid / Et Al,

I want to create a query that updates a table from a file.

This was from the help in Access 2003

[SELECT | INSERT] INTO destination IN
{path | ["path" "type"] | ["" [type; DATABASE = path]]}

To identify a source table:

FROM tableexpression IN
{path | ["path" "type"] | ["" [type; DATABASE = path]]} What I need to know. Is that I've tried to search for the various properties. I'm either dense or just not asking the right questions.

Say I have a .txt file ( with various delimeters ) how do I write the query to use that said file.

No luck finding an answer? You could always try Google.
