Hi,
Having spent most of yesterday putting together my own excel workbook and am
a little gutted this morning to find I can't get into it.
The file will open but as soon as it does it freezes (egg timer thingy) and
after a minute or so I get the replt - excel not responding!
I have run a virus check, cleared all my cookies and completed a system
restore all of which did not work.
Thr workbook contains around 10 worksheets, a personal toolbar and around 20
macros all of which carry out various things.

I can get into any other excel workbook I have - but not this one ??
I can't even get into the VB editor (ALT+F11) to remove the code and/or
macros.
Can any body offer any solutions - before I beat up the cat !!!!! (joke)

hi my workbook contains alot of codes but it works very well but i have just one sheet which is make excel not responding when i delete any row from it , it happen one time before and i was have to rebuild my workbook in new one but now i can't do that, so what could i do to get over this problem???????????

I am writing a program to generate all combinations of assets, with a specific portfolio size, from a group of tickers, and to also calculate a stats. If i run the program and it has more than just a few or so possible combinations, then excel will say (not responding) when it is calculating all the statistics, even though the code is running (If you sit and wait it eventually finishes, and the program is flashing the entire time). This is even happening when I just run the portfolio generation part with a large amount of tickers (it always gets caught around 10000 portfolios, but will still finish running). This is annoying because I want to be able to see the amount of portfolios it has gone through so I can know for sure it is working, and also because I cant stop the code from running without freezing excel.

Just a heads up, I have only been writing code for about 6 months, and everything is self-taught, I tried to clean up the code, but I guarantee it can be more efficiently written and is probably still a little messy. I just want advice on how I can prevent excel from doing this, and also possibly advice on how to speed up the program (Specifically the part where I am calculating the Statistics and Especially the Portfolio Correlation part.)

My File size is 789kb so I cant upload it, but if anyone can help with this let me know and I will email it to you.

I am Running Excel 2010 64-Bit Edition on Windows 7

Hi all,

I have just migrated my workbook from my standalone laptop to a work
networked pc - My pc uses excel 2003 pro and work pc excel 2003. When I
execute the copied workbook on the n/w pc it opens, I enable macro's no
problem. When I try to do things such as set a print area excel hangs -
taskmgr shows excel as not responding! Everthing is fine on my laptop so
not sure what the issue could be. The VB used is self contained as in it
does not create temporary files or require external data.

Advice welcomed....tia

Hi All

I am having intermittent episodes of an excel spreadsheet not responding. doesn't seem to be reason for it, and after a few minutes it comes back up. The sheet had a number of DDE links which are constantly updating. These links are a price feed. There are no problems with the shared drive. Theres not any vba code running in the background or major calculations going on. My main problem is how to investigate a problem like this there seems no obvious avenue.

I'd appreciate views on this issue.

Cheers

Excel file is 46mb. Has 2 macros. Ist macro selects company in use and
populates data tables based on company in use. The second macro is an
automated goal seek calculation.
If run ist macro and save and close file and shut down machine, then restart
and run the 2nd macro then the file calculates correctly.
If try to run Ist and 2nd macros sequentially then Excel stops responding
during the 2nd macro.
Have upped RAM to 3 GB and increased processor to 2.8 MHZ, but makes no
difference.
How do I stop excel hanging / not responding

After I protect the sheet I can make two entries. When I hit the TAB or the arrow key the cursor disappears and excel goes into "not responding." Any ideas?

This a retitled version of my post entitled "Printin a selection of pages"

I wish to print individual pages from a Worksheet. A facility is provided in Settings to enter page numbers but Excel does not respond.

Is there something I am not doing?

When I open any file, no matter how small, I have recently begun to get a
freeze lasting about a minute. If I control alt del, I get a not responding
status. Tried freeing up memory and defragging but doesn't seem to help.

Hello Everyone.. I've got a macro to delete 1 line by 5 columns. It unprotects the sheet, does the delete & re protects the sheet. My question is, is there any particular reason why the macro either hangs for upto 8 seconds, or stops excel from responding for that time. Excel then comes back to life as per normal. It's doing it every time. I don't have this problem with the macro I use for entering data, which does the same via a userform, but entering rather than deleting.
?? Any ideas please

Sub Deleter()
'Un-Protect Worksheet----------------------------------------------
ActiveSheet.Unprotect Password:="secrets"
' Deleter Macro to delete the contents
' of the bottom cell in column A & 4 cells to the right

    With Range("i" & Rows.Count).End(xlUp).Select
    Selection.Offset(0, 0).ClearContents 'First Column
    Selection.Offset(0, 2).ClearContents '2 Columns to the right
    Selection.Offset(0, 3).ClearContents ' Ditto
    Selection.Offset(0, 4).ClearContents
    Selection.Offset(0, 5).ClearContents
    End With
'Re-Protect Worksheet----------------------------------------------
ActiveSheet.Protect Password:="secrets"

End Sub

Just upgraded to Vista and Excel keeps going into not responding mode and
then just loops. Any suggestions to overcome, stop it happening why is it
happening?

I installed Excel, but it is not responding at all. Also on the left side of
the screen, it shows a list of "Document Recovery" . Help!

I pulled a file up from Excel 2003, a three page spreadsheet, whenever I
tried to change anything, ie. inserting a line, changing a number, etc. I get
a NOT RESPONDING message and the program takes FOREVER to do anything. I
thought it might just be the spreadsheet so I started a new spreadsheet and
entered 2 lines. Then tried to add something and got the same message. So
you can't tell me a 2 line spreadsheet is too long. When I went to print the
spreadsheet it printed maybe one page per minute. I just purchased Vista
and Office 2007. I haven't tried Word or any other program so I don't know
if this is doing the same thing or not. HELP ! ! ! !

Hi all,
Hope you can help. Using Excel 2003 whenever I try to insert a picture
from file Excel brings up the file selection dialog box, allows me to
select the picture file that I want to insert but after I click on 'ok'
to actually select the file Excel hangs and eventually shows 'Not
Responding' next to the file name in the title bar.

This is causing me major problems as I need to be able to insert
pictures into worksheets constantly throughout the day. I am using
Offie 2003 on XP Pro. At the moment I am having to get colleagues to
insert the pictures on their machines (all running Office 2000) and
then save the files for me.

Hope somebody can point me in the right direction!!

Hello,

I have made a ActiveX control which consists of some textboxes and a button.
Now I am trying to use this control in Excel, with the help of macros.

I have used ActiveSheet.OLEObject.Add to add this control to Excel sheet,
though Control appears on the sheet but it is not responding.
There is no effect of clicking on the button.
if I click on Design mode button on Control toolbox toolbar and Exit the
design mode by clicking on the same button, The Control starts responding to
the button clicks.

I want my control to be added dynamically and should respond as it is drawn
on the sheet.

1. Am I Missing some thing that i need to do with OLEObject.Add, so that i
can use my control without clicking on the Design mode button.
2. Somebody can please tell how can i switch to and from design mode
programatically.

Can somebody please help...

Hi - I have a speadsheet which is Not Responding (hanging) with a pale grey / white screen. This follows the simplest task which is saving following cutting and pasting a formatted cell (coloured fill) from one to the next.

System Spec
Excel 2007 running on Windows 7 Home Premium Ed, running on Parallel Desktop on MAC.

I read somewhere that it could be due to:
1. Basically there can be a conflict between the 64 windows and the 32 bit Office suite. The only clues I really saw as he wiz-banged around the screen were the use of an Office Hybrid 2007 file and him changing the "XLSSTART" folder to "XLSSTARTOLD" .
2. Clipboard causing the problem possibly solved by a change from DDE Server to Active-X Control

I am not techy enough to make these changes and need a step-by-stel guide.

Help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi - I have an Excel 2007 speadsheet which is Not Responding (hanging) with a pale grey / white screen. This follows the simplest of tasks which is saving following cutting and pasting a formatted cell (coloured fill) from one to the next, or when inserting a column and then saving.

This is a problem which has just started following Excel 2007 getting confused due to trying to perform a task too quickly. Now the problem persists.

Hello. In Excel 2007, whenever I choose 'help' or F1 and either wait a few seconds, choose a link within help, or start a search, the 'help' window stops responding and the window title becomes "Excel Help (not responding)". I am using Vista and have checked that my internet connection is still 'on' and functioning as other programs can access it. I have also run the office diagnostics but all tests pass. I have also tried going to the Microsoft Office Tools via the Start/Programs/Microsoft Office route, but the 'recover office program' feature does not appear (due to the fact that Excel program is still running fine, I suppose, while the 'help' feature is not). Any suggestions/solutions would be appreciated.

I have a spread sheet that contains formulas plus macros. This spread sheet is linked to another platform called MT4 (for Forex trading). The data is fed from MT4 to the spread sheet using DDE. It works the first time when I start my PC. However, if I were to change the macros and hit an error, I forced close the spread sheet and restart it. I always get "not responding" of the spread sheet. I have to restart my PC in order to have the spread sheet working again. I don't know how to find out the problem that causes the "not responding". Anyone has any advise on this? Thanks.

No luck finding an answer? You could always try Google.
