Continuous page numbers in workbook of multiple worksheets

I would like the page numbers to start with 1 on the first worksheet in a
workbook and then have the next worksheet pick up with where the first
worksheet left off. For example, if the first worksheet has 2 pages and the
second worksheet in the workbook had 3 pages, then the first worksheet would
contain pages 1 and 2 while the 2nd worksheet would contain pages 3, 4, and
5. Is there a way to have Excel figure out what the first page number should
be in the 2nd worksheet or do I always have to manually update it in Page
setup.

THANKS!

I'd like to print a workbook in it's entirety - that is Select 'Entire
Workbook' from the Print dialog box - but want continuous page numbering
turned off. That is, each sheet has a different number of pages and I'd like
sheet 1 to come out printing 'Page 1 of 3, Page 2 of 3, Page 3 of 3' then
sheet 2 to come out printing 'Page 1 of 2, Page 2 of 2' and so on. Is there
a way to make this happen? Thanks.

I am trying to print a document in excel in which i have x number of rows to repeat on each page in the print setup. I want to show the Page number in one of those rows that are being repeated. to be more clear i am explaining in detail below:

PROBLEM 1
Row 1-10 has to be repeated on each page printed
Row 10 should show "Page x of y" (x=current page number, y=total pages)
There are in total aprx 160 Rows that need to be printed. Total number of rows to print will vary depending...

P.S. i do not want Header to show number of pages, just would like to show that in row 10 which is one of the rows which will be repeated on each page.
so for page 1 should print "Page 1 of 4" , page
2 should print "Page 2 of 4" and so forth.

PROBLEM 2
Similarily at the bottom of all pages printed i need show "Continued on Page z" where "z" is the number of the next page. this will be needed for all pages except the last page.

Hope someone can help me. As i do not know VBA at all so incase there is some VBA code involved pls explain each step as to how do i do it.

Thanks

I have a worksheet which has been set up to print the first 5 rows on each page. Is it possible to put the page number in one of the cells within the "print titles" rows which changes depending on which page it prints?

Recently, and I do not know how, all of the column headings in all of my
worksheets changed to numbers (i.e. 1-4) as opposed to letters (as they are
supposed to be).

Any ideas on how I can change the default settings of Excel 2003 to give me
letters for the column headings again (preferably for all worksheets)? I much
prefer A1 as a reference to a specific cell than R1C1.

I am a beginner to Excel and VBA, can somebody show me a few lines of scripts and instructions how to use VBA scripts to combine multiple Excel xls Files (which contain single worksheet) into a single Excel file of multiple worksheets?

Can somebody also suggest a good book with examples I can start to learn to solve these kinds of problems?

Thanks very much

i have about 200 worksheets in one workbook. each worksheet has about 5 pages within it, separated by horizontal and vertical page breaks. how can i insert a footer in each page within each worksheet, containing a continious page numbering sequence.

for example, we are looking at sheet1 and sheet2....sheet1 has 5 pages within it, and sheet2 has 3 pages contained within.

so what i am asking for is some simple vba to start the page numbering process on the active worksheet, sheet1, number all pages 1-5 within sheet1, then carry on to the next worksheet, sheet2, starting with page number 6 and so on...

i just want a simple center header inserted with size 10 , times new roman font. page numbers beginning with 1 on the active sheet and continuing until the end of the workbook...

is this possible?
any code would be greatly appreciated.

In Excel is there a way of continuing page numbers from one worksheet to the
next

Thanks

Tomos.

Hello,
I have many workbooks containing multiple worksheets ( in C:Lists). Now I want to put all worksheets from all workbooks in ( C:Lists) into one single worksheet in a new workbook (C:ListsnewWB.xlsx). All the existing worksheets have the same structure(same column number) and the first row of all worksheets is also the same. When the worksheets are put into master sheet, the name of original worksheet should also be copied for each row in Col. O. Each row in master worksheet should contain name of original worksheet in Col. O, so that its origin is always understandable.
Thank you very much for each help.

In a workbook of nine worksheets, I was able to get numbering like 1 of 9, 2
of 9, etc. as advised by Ragdyer. But there are two problems:
1. The numbering in the center of the header was got by using "page 1 of ?".
But the size of the fonts on the different sheets are different and I can
find no control to be able to adjust these both for size and bold.

2. If I seek to do the same in the spcial header and special footer, my only
choice is to use two icons next to each other--one is like a # sign, and the
other two signs. No matter how I try, I cannot get these two to give page 1
of 9, 2 of 9, 3 of 9, etc.
Although in this case there is an icon which can adjust font, bold, etc.
Another advantage of this method compared to the earlier one is that you can
place the page numbering to the left, center or right.

Would appreciate your advise, amd thank you again.

After setting up and printing a ws, the page number shows up in large type in
center of page - spread across cols G thru L. How can I remove it?

how do you get to put these page numbers on worksheet that don't print

I am trying to build a sheet that contains a table of contents at the top, followed by tables as one scrolls down in the same sheet. What I would like to have to the side of each line in the table of contents is the page number of the table that line is referring to. Is there a formula or a function I can use that will dynamically retrieve the page number of a particular table?

Excel offers a number of options for printing continuous page numbers.

1. Select Page Layout -> Click Dialog Box Launcher in the bottom-right corner
of Page Setup group -> Header/Footer tab -> Custom Footer.
2. Select a section, click Insert page Number command, and click OK.

Use the automatic option for continuous numbers when using Report Manager.

Hey guys,

I have page number in my footer on one of my word documents. It sais "page x of x" (x = page number). It looks fine on the computer screen as it sais "page 1 of 2" on the first page, "page 2 of 2" on the second page. BUT when I print out the document, it sais "page 1 of 1" on the first page and "page 2 of 2" on the second page. Why is that? I want the page numbers to be correct. Can anyone help me, please?

Thank you so much

Does anyone know of a MACRO to search a workbook with multiple worksheets?

Any help is GREATLY appreciated!!!

"if you really need a code for that, I have one in a ~100 long-lines macro
let me know where to send it to you."

Hector:

Back in November you posted the message below about code for putting page
numbers in printout in a cell. If you could post that 100 lines of code here
that would be really helpful. I desperately need to do this. Or send to me
at:

I will like to display in a cell at almost the top of the page, the page number.
> E.g. Page 1 of 5 next Page 2 of 5... in a five page document. How do i do this? I have Excel 2003.

IMHO, 'this'... is not that simple :-(
AFIAK, each 'cell at almost the top of the page' changes according to page
setup print/printer settings
- it needs to 'scan' for row/column pagebreask, print area, print title
rows/columns, print order, quality, zoom, etc.
- also, is if you 'write' on cells 'page # of ##' by code, scan for previous
'wrong-page-numbered' cells

if you only need 5 page-numbered cells, I guess an easy way could it be:
- do a printpreview
- locate those 'cell at almost the top of the page', and number them [you
know the print order]

if you really need a code for that, I have one in a ~100 long-lines macro

Good Morning

See the attatched file. I apply page numbering in the sheet # 2 & 3.

If i select only sheet # 2, print preview show Page 1 and if i select all sheets, for sheet 2 it shows Page 2.

But in sheet 3 it always show Page 12. If i make a change in the footer it do not update

Kindly tell me how could i update page numbering in the footer of sheet 3, same as it is in sheet 2

Hi,

I would like to append multiple workbooks with multiple worksheets in a separate workbook. For eg. I have workbook "A" with sheets 1,2,3 and workbook "B" with sheets 4,5,6. Now I want to append "A" and "B" to create workbook "C" with sheets 1,2,3,4,5,6.

Thank you in advance.

Good Day
I am working on a large spreadsheet created elsewhere and I am trying
to add a macro to print a multipaged tab. When I insert the command
for page number [in VBA as well as manually], the first page of the
report starts with "Page 17 of ___".

I have no idea how it calculates the first page as #17, and I can't
find a way to get it to smarten up and count properly.

Does anyone know what is happening and what to do about it?

Many Thanks

John Kerr

Excel in office 2003
When printing charts that are horizontal we would like to continue our
paging scheme but on a vertical mode. The only way to print a page number in
excel is in a header or footer. But within the header, how can the number be
turned?

I am using excel 2007 and I need help inserting page numbers. I am not using header or footer for the page numbers. Print preview of the worksheet shows 4 pages. In one the cell I have inserted page number as 1of 4 and the print preview shows same page number on all 4 pages. How can I get different page number on each page? Hope my question is clear.

Problem:

The typed manuscript of a book was divided into five files.
Columns B & C contain the numbers of the first and last page included in each of the files.
We want to retrieve the file name corresponding to each page number listed in column E.

Solution:

Use the INDEX and MATCH functions as shown in the following formula:
=INDEX($A$2:$A$6,MATCH(E2,$B$2:$B$6))
