Change Excel Language?

Hello there,

Is there a way to change Excel's language to English. I currently have it in Spanish, I speak spanish, but I am more familiarized with English formulas.

If there is a way to change language, will my worksheets with spanish formulas automatically change too?

Thanks in Advance

I am using the German Version of Excel 2007 on Win XP SP2. My problem is, that before that I was using an English version of Excel 2000 and am therefore used to the English names of formulas.

Is there an easier way than re-installing Excel in English to switch between the languages so that I dont have to search for ages for the German name of the formula I know perfectly well in English?

Plus, when I use this great forum here I obviously get the formulas in English - finding the german equivalent can be quite a bugger at times...

Topic should have said: How to change Excel Format from Hebrew to English

thanks for your help!

Hi,

When I use a function and formatting to get the written version of the month (e.g. I use =today() => then format the date as custom: "mmmm" => the value of the cell is "June") and send this to a user in another countery (e.g. Germany), the value of cell will change to "Juni". I know this is based on the regional and language setting in the control panel in Windows. However, is there a possibility to make the cell stay in English independent of the settings of the user? Unfortunately I can't tell all the users to change their language. So the result should always be "June" (in English) and never change to another language but the function should still be active (so in this example, the value of the cell should change automatically to "July" next month). I tried to solve it with =TEXT(D10;"MMMM") but I get the same result.

Thanks for any help!

When I create an add-in using File Save as, Excel goes to an add-in directory.
I don't want to put my add-ins there, and I don't like to have to re direct the

Hey there,

I got a problem with dates messed up because of the language excel is in.
I have an algorithm to calculate the day and month of Easter, Pentecost and Ascension for a given year.
So I have each day, month and year.

I currently put them in date variables by: easter_date= easter_month & "/" & easter_day & "/" & easter_year
That works fine because my excel language is English.

On a different PC which has Dutch excel this goes wrong because in Dutch dates the day is entered first. So on that pc instead of getting
Easter= 4 (month) / 8 (day) / 2012 I get 4 (day) / 8 (month) / 2012.

Is there a way to build up a date with a day, month and year in such a way that it's always correct (no matter what language Excel is in at that moment)? Like setting the day, month and year property of a date variable individually?
easter_date.month=easter_month
easter_date.day=easter_day
easter_date.year=easter_year

or by giving up a string which says what is first ("dd-mm-yyyy")?

Thanks in advance

I work for a company that is implementing a new chart of accounts to
manage our business. The new account length will be 12 characters in
length(e.g. 611500100001). Unfortunately, when this is entered in
Excel - Excel automatically changes the value to an exponent
(6.115E+11).
Now I know I can change the format to display the number correctly, but
actually want to either change the default exponent length setting or
worse case: remove the exponent feature altogether. One of the other
reasons that this will become a big problem is the fact that in my
company we utilize CSV (comma separated value) files extensively and we
modify it using Excel. Everytime a CSV file is opened all of the
accounts are changed to exponents.
Does anyone know of anyway to change excel's default setting for
switching a number to an exponent? If not, I'd even entertain the
thought of removing the exponent entirely from Excel as it will become
that big of a problem.
Thanks in advance for any feedback!

How do I change excel format from language to language?

This really should be easy but I can't figure it out for the life of me.

I work in a multilingual office and sometimes I need to make spreadsheets that have dates in them in Spanish and English. My version of Excel is setup for English, and that is how I generally use it. But now I want to take an existing spreadsheet and change the dates into Spanish. So instead of listing "1-Jan" it should say "1-Enero" or something equivalent.

I tried changing the language for every cell to Spanish, but that didn't do anything.

Any thoughts?

Thanks,
Justin

I've heard about naughty stuff macros can be used for, and have a situation whereby I'd like to use a macro to make a change outside of excel.

It's all to do with my solution to the following problem:

I have this csv file which comes in from a US company. When you open it using normal UK settings - the data Excel can misinterpret e.g. 05/11/2007 instead of 11/05/2007 it does, the date's which are plainly outside of what excel expects e.g 02/15/2007 it turns into text.

My solution is to manually go to;

Start>Settings>Control Panel>Regional and Language Options> English (United States)

i.e. change your language setting to US before loading the csv files, then change back to UK once they're loaded in Excel.

Can I incorporate this into a jedi macro?

Thanks,

Andy

Hi,

I'm using the Swedish version of MS Excel (2003), and I just realized that
it does not understand english names for the functions (such as #IF, #SUM
etc), instead I have to write them in Swedish.

Well, this is really annoying since I'm learning Excel formulas from an
english book and each time I want to test the book examples I have to figure
out the swedish "function names".

So, my question: Is it possible to change the current language (Swedish) to
English (so that I can use english function names)?

Cheers,
Mikael

I have Windows XP Professional and MS Office 2000 installed on my work
computer.

The excel spreadsheet I open (lexicon.tab) contains translations for about
10 European languages. The only 2 that dont display properly are Greek and
Russian. These display on screen as messed up ascii characters.

The font i'm using is "Arial" but i've also tried "Arial Unicode MS" without
luck.

When i change the "language for non-unicode programs" (under Regional and
Language Options) from "English (Australian)" to "Greek" then restart the
computer, the Greek caracters in this same lexicon.tab excel spreadsheet
display correctly.

Reading the excel help files it indicates that excel uses unicode and by
changing the font to "Arial Unicode MS" most languages should display
correctly.
Why would changing the OS setting "language for non-unicode programs" affect
what is said to be a unicode program?

Could someone suggest how i can display Greek and Russian languages in Excel
without having to change the "language for non-unicode programs" setting in
XP and rebooting please?

Thanks,
Mark

Hi,

As you might know, we in Israel use 2 languages: English and Hebrew.

Hebrew is written from right to left.

On the Windows Task-Bar we have an Icon EN/HE.

From within Excel we can change language with ALT+LEFT SHIFT.

We usually use EN, especially in Excel because all functions are in EN.
Therefore and unfortunately, the cursor in an InputBox (in Excel VBA)
is placed Left justified and in EN.

I tried to record a Macro while changing the language from EN to HE and right justifying the cursor with RIGHT CTRL+SHIFT.

I succeeded un doing it BUT NO CODE was recorded for these steps.

so, is there a way to put some code commands in order to achieve my request.

I Hope I made myself clear.

Thanks, Michael

P.S. I do not want to change the default language !
At the end of the Macro I would like to change the language back to EN !

Hello!
I have a question: I need to change the language in an excel file, is there a way to do that? The file was created with excel that has Russian language settings, and when I open it with English version it still keeps the Russian words in the tables (like "sum", "total", etc) I tried changing the language settings of my Excel to english again, hoping that it would automatically update the file, but that didn't work. So, is there a way to change the common excel terms' language in a specific file?
Thanks

Hi,
Im a first time macro user and am having trouble with a recorded macro. The hope is to insert a excel formatted table a set number of times. I have found a loop code that references a Cell A1 and repeats that amount of times. So if A1= 10. There should be 10 tables inserted. However on the second time there is a fault with the table name. I need the name to change each time the loop is run. ie Table1, Table2, Table3 etc up until the loop stops (A1 contents).
I am using excel for windows 2010. The macro that i have so far is below. Thank you for any help.

Sub LoopTest()
Dim n
Dim V
Range("A1").Select
V = ActiveCell.Value
n = 0
Do Until n = V
ActiveCell.Range("A7:P20").Select
ActiveSheet.ListObjects.Add(xlSrcRange, ActiveCell.Range("$A$7:$P$20"), , xlNo).Name = "table1"
ActiveCell.Range("A26").Select
n = n + 1
Loop
End Sub

Thanks again
