Chart Autofit greyed out

Hi everyone,

I have a template that has several charts setup pulling data from some number fields. In some cases the numbers are too large in the data labels for the size of the chart and so Excel pushes the number field down to the next line, breaking up my number.

The only way I seem to be able to get the numbers to fit on one line in the chart data labels is to make the chart much wider. I want to force the field to autofit to the text but when I go to "Format data labels" and "Alignment" the autofit option is greyed out.

Any idea how to get these to autofit? I also can't seem to make the boxes for the data labels any wider by highlighting and pulling them further out.

Thanks!

I have multiple charts in a worksheet and when the charts are not selected
they are greyed out. I think I caused this by hitting some combination of
keys by accident, but I don't know how to undo it.

Hi all,

I have copied and pasted a pivot chart from one sheet into another in excel, but the new chart appears greyed out.

If I click on the greyed out box the chart appears but if i click somewhere else the box goes grey again

Does anyone know how to overcome this problem?

Many thanks,

Nicko

Hi,

I seem to be having this problem, where for some reason my chart is showing as a greyed out box until I click on the area and them it is normal again.

I really can't seem to figure out why this is happening as I would like the chart to be visible at all times, so any help would be much appreciated.

I've attached an image so you can see what I'm on about.

In Excel 2007 when I select the data range to create a chart, all the ribbon
chart buttons are greyed out. I'm just trying to create a simple chart using
dates and unit pricing. I really need to complete this project and I would be
very grateful for any advice! Thank you.

I have been sent a workbook that contains a number of charts. when the
workbook opens the charts are not visible, but are "greyed out". I have to
click on a chart to view it. As soon as I click away from the chart it is
hidden again.

The source data is created using the offset function and the parameters for
this function are selected using form combo boxes.

Please can anyone suggest how I can make the charts visible at all times

Thanks

Carl

I have Excel 2003, and have just added both Org Charts and Drawing tool bars.
All of the options for shape are greyed out, and will not let me select
them. I have used Org charts in the past and have never had this problem in
the past.

Hi,

Someone has passed me a workbook containing a chart sheet with a standard Bar chart sheet. However unlike with a sheet embedded chart object I can't change the source data since the option is greyed out.

How can I change/edit the source data?

I am trying to put some charts into a worksheet with multiple sheets but the chart wizard button is greyed out.

Some of the sheets are lists with key values and I have used countif() on other sheets to count the instances of each class of record occuring each month. Which I would like to make some charts of, but can't...

Any help is greatly appriciated.

I am studying for a test and created a pivot chart successfully. The
instructions then say to select the chart
and go to 3dView. My 3d View is greyed out.

Where did I go wrong?

Thank you.

I was attempting to create a pie chart and clicked the pie chart icon.
However, did not want it embedded in the same Work sheet, so I clicked on the
new work sheet tab. It did not work and somehow I must have triggered
something else and all icons on both my insert tab and data tab is greyed out.

I am looking for a way to "Grey Out" a row in an Excel tracking chart I am
using. I did not want to use the text and fill colors if I did not need to.

Thanx !!

I have the same problem with my citrix server. Did you ever find a
solution?

Some of my command options in excel have been greyed out, notably PRINT,
FORMULA BAR, OPTIONS. I do have a workbook open. However if I create or open
a chart in the same workbook the options are there, but only when on the cart
worksheet! I think something happened when I used a website which used Excel
on my PC. Any ideas on how I can recover the situation?

I simply want to add a Text Box to an Excel Chart.
Although I can open the Drawing Toolbar OK, some comands on it are
greyed-out and do not function?
How can I activate the Text Box command?

By the way, if I create a new spreadsheet, all the Drawing Toolbar commands
are active. So I conclude that the problem lies with the specific spreadsheet
that I am working on rather than the software or any general settings.

It seems so basic, but I would really appreciate help on how to fix it.
Thanks.

Hi,

I have a chart done in excel 2007 with major vertical and horizontal gridlines. I managed to remove the horizontal lines using Format Major Gridlines option but I can't do it for my vertical Major Gridlines. The "No Line" option under "Line Color" is greyed out. How do I enable it?

I would like to restore some important functionality in Excel 2007 which has become disabled for a spreadsheet which I saved in different file formats.

I opened an Excel 2003 file with Excel 2007 and used 'Save As' into different formats (default, macro-enabled, binary) to see the resulting file size.

A number of Ribbon items are now greyed out for this file, including,
- Insert - Tables, Illustrations, charts, etc.
- Styles - conditional formatting and Format as table,
- Formula Auditing
- Data - just about all of them
- View - some of the Window items.
Also, I cannot resize or move a button on a worksheet.

Attempts to 'Save As' into the Excel 2003 format cause Excel 2007 to hang.

What caused so many features to become disabled?
How do I restore them?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Hi all,

For some reason, one of my excel files (only one) has stopped letting me graph my data!!?? I have no idea what I've done to it.

When I go to the "Insert" tab, the 'Illustrations' and 'Charts' sections are greyed out (as if to say 'in-accessible') and I can't make a graph. All other facilities in this Excel file seem to be working fine, and all the other files haven't got this problem at all.

Any ideas? I'm sure its a one click solution, but I'm stuck!...

Hello,

I am making a userform, and I need to make a check box have the capability of greying out a text box if it is checked. More specifically, there is a text box for account number, but I want to have the option of checking a box that says open inquiry in which case there would be no need for an account number. The account number text box needs to be filled in if it is not an open inquiry, otherwise the text box is not a requirement.

Thanks in advance for any help.

I have a fairly large spreadsheet which has over 30 tabs. The first tab is a summary sheet which uses hyperlinks to open relevanmt tabs.

I have 36 hyperlinks and want to add more. However the hyperlink feature in the right clicked menu has been greyed out.

Any ideas?

Hi forum

I've just finished writing some vb code that i need to assign to a button.
Trouble is I select the control toolbox and put it design mode and all of the icons with the tool box are greyed out.

Any ideas. pic attached below

Problem solved: I inadvertently had selected more than one worksheet tab and this was stopping me from placing a button on the worksheet.

I am using Excel 2000 on Windows 2000. There are no macros on spreadsheet and no protections at all yet I acnnot use trace precedents/dependents as the items are greyed out. Can anyone suggest what may have happened?

Thanks you
