MS word has capability to customize toolbars with shortcut buttons for
"superscript" and "subscript". This feature has never been added to Excel
for some reason. It would be really helpful for those of us in chemistry and
math related fields for writing out chemicals like CO2 and formulas like A =
pi*r^2.

Currently the only way it can done is through format cells menu item which
becomes tedious after 2 or 3 uses. Can this feature be added in soon???
With a service pack update even?

I'd like to be able to add a button for superscript and subscript formatting
to the toolbar easily in Excel, like can be done in Word and Powerpoint.
Maybe there is a way built into Excel that I haven't found yet, and I assume
it can be done with Macros, but I am not familiar with them.

Hi,

I was hoping someone could help...

I have 7 sheets in my workbook, all showing similar data in landscape.

The page setup at first was as default.

On the first sheet I have reduced the margins around the edge to make the
information spread across larger on the page.

I want this to apply to sheets 2-5, but not 6 and 7.

Any ideas that will save me going to each sheet and amending margins and
"Centre on page" options??

Many thanks.

Rajen

I want to hide the header and footer on page 1, but I do not want to hide the
header and footer on pages 2 thru ....

All macro buttons on the developer tab are grayed out, except for the "Macro
Security" and "Use relative references".

I've tryed to save the file macro-enabled, enabled all macros, even
reinstalled excel. But neither solved the problem. VB is also installed, or
at least that is what the setup window shows.

Please help.

PRODUCT
Office 2000 Small Business Edition
O/S: Xp Home Edition, v. 5.1, serv. pack 2
Br: Inernet Explorer 7

The undo/redo buttons are grayed out in the toolbar and in the Edit menu
"can't undo" is grayed out. This started at some point in the past without my
noticing it or being aware of any particular action that I took that would
cause this. This is now the constant state of Excel when opening a new
spreadsheet or on any previously created spreadsheets. When copying such an
affected spreadsheet to a different computer Excel behaves normal with undo
available as usual. I have removed Office 2000 and reinstalled from CD and
same condition remains. I want to mention one other odd occurrence that
started at the same time in case there is a connection: the dialog boxes in
the drop down menus lost their gray background. The entry fields and buttons
are now displayed on an opaque white background.

Other conditions on my PC: I have a Visio button in the toolbar that I
thought may cause this condition and I removed Visio from my PC but button
remains after re-installing Office 2000 and I can't delete it. Also, I have
Visio button in Word and it doesn't interfere with Undo from Word Edit menu.
I wonder if there is a Registry entry that causes this?

Thank you for any help anyone can supply.

I tried to use Excel (2007) today and got a surprise: I can't enter data into any cell. When I try to, it acts like I'm not typing at all, and nothing happens. This is when I enter data directly into a cell, or into the formula fx bar.

I checked the "office button" menu, and all the options are grayed out except "Print, Open, and Close", so I can't save or start a new file. When I try to change the "Excel Options" under the button in the same menu, it won't let me click on any of the tabs in the window that comes up, the only tab it will let me see is the "resources" tab. Again, it just acts like I'm doing nothing. Also, almost all the options on all the ribbon menus are grayed out. All the options that do something useful, I can't use. I can't do anything in Excel at all, except open and view files.

My mouse and keyboard work, i checked that first. I tried restarting my computer, restarting Excel, opening several worksheets, and have the same problem. I ran a "Microsoft Office Diagnostic" from that Resources tab, but it said "no problems found". I looked for some solutions online, but no luck. I can't "re-install" Excel because it came with this computer, I don't have a disc to reinstall from. I'll check for viruses later when I get home, but I really don't think that's the problem.

Any ideas? Thanks for your help.

I've upgraded to Office 2007 and opened an Excel workbook from Excel 2000
which contained a number of graphs both on sheets and on tabs of their own.
One graph is fine but the others are screwed up because of the way it is
treating empty cells or gaps in the data.

The radio buttons for "treat empty cells as" is grayed out except for the
"zero" option. On the graph that is OK I can choose the option to leave a
gap and its fine.

Does anyone know why this has happened or how I can correct this?

I have been wondering for some time why the fill series functionality is
sometime not available. When you right-click on the fill handle and drag it
to fill adjacent cells, the series option is grayed out in the menu and there
is no way to get Excel to do anything other than copying cell values.

I searched the Web and couldn't find an answer, so I decided to share my
findings.

I know for shure adding auto-filters to a spreadsheet deactivates the fill
series functionality. If you are aware of any other reasons why it may be
deactivated, please share it here.

Hello,

I have a user form with various txt and cmb boxes throughout. At the bottom of the form there are 2 distinct segments, one is based upon auction, the other retail. Towards the top of the user form there's a cmb box I've titled cmbPurpose
There are two choices on a list it's tied to: Retail and Auction. I would like to have the 2 boxes associated with Auction grayed out until 'Auction' has been selected in cmbPurpose, I would like to have the 4 boxes associated with Retail grayed out until 'Retail' has been selected in cmbPurpose - does anyone know how to do this?

I'm having a problem getting autofilter to work with a specific Excel file.
The file contains about 15 worksheets and on every sheet autofilter is
grayed out. Even when I create a new, blank worksheet in the file, same
thing.

Is there a file setting or something else that could account for this
happening in this file? None of the worksheets have protection turned on,
and all other option settings seem to be fine.

I'm using Excel 2003, and if I create a new file or go to any other file I
have, autofilter is not grayed out.

Thanks for any help given.

I would like to filter on the various items listed in a column, but when I go
to filter, the Auto Filter is grayed out. I have used Auto Filter on other
spreadsheets, but this one I can't get it to be available.

Hi Everyone!

I randomly have a problem with some of my worksheets, and lately a lot more
often. When I open them, even before I select yes, run macros, about a
quarter of the right side of the workbook fully grays out. It grays out the
column headings, and all of the way down to even gray out the sheet tabs. It
also starts clear at the edge of the screen.

The only way that I can get around this is to open a blank excel document
first, and then open my working or "important" document.

Has anyone ever heard of this?

Thanks for the help (I need all I can get!)

I have charts I do for trend data. In Excel 97 these charts worked
flawlessly and I could adjust the axis scales to make it all legible.
Since migrating to 2000 these charts no longer work as before. The x
axis usually has way to many markers and the text all runs together. I
can no longer go into the format axis dialog and change it the way I
want to, the option is grayed out. What has changed and how do I get
around it? A small sample of the date is below. The typical datasheet
hold 5900+ records and a chart might use 1400 or more records in the
chart.

I have a workbook that I use for building estimating. It has a number of sheets and the main estimating sheet is called "Estimate". I then have continuation sheets (the first is named "Continuation Pg" and subsequent ones (added as needed) are called "Continuation(2)" "Continuation(3)", etc.

I need to search the "Estimate" and all "Continuation" sheets for a text string, e.g., "Total Building Damages:" and when it is found, it will be in Col A of one of those sheets. I then need to display the value in Col F of that row in another sheet (named "Report"), in E21. Further, I need to display the value in Col G of the "Estimate" sheet (same row) in G21 of the "Report" worksheet. And so on for other values.

Since there should be only one occurrence of this text string in the workbook, it would be OK to search the entire workbook for this string.

Can anyone help me get started? I'm not all that familiar with VBA, but I'm getting lots of good info from the newsgroup and have bought a couple of books.
Hopefully, I'll start to pick it up.

TIA,

Jim

Excel 2003, XP system - No matter what I do the chart icon is grayed out. I

Hi, there.
I found that the "Design" manual was disappeared (or gray out when added a
new command on the quick access tool bar) after I exported the worksheets to
my sharepoint. It won't be activated when I reopened the worksheet I
previously exported to the sharepoint.
Any ideas?

Hi. I am running Office 2002, and the Options menu under Tools is
grayed out. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling Excel, but no
change. Nothing is set in protection, and the other programs in Office
are unaffected.
Any ideas?? Thanks!

Can I create a button or cell which hides or shows a specific picture? That is, the first click is Show, the second is Hide. Or perhaps two buttons for Hide and Show?

Hi,

I am trying to link text in my worksheet to a page on my web site.

My hyperlink icon is visible - until I select the text I want to link! Then it grays out so I can't click on it?

What could I be doing wrong?

The text I want to link consists of two words within a short paragraph in a single cell

No luck finding an answer? You could always try Google.
