"cannot insert object" in Excel (even a button from Control Toolbox)

I am using the Control Toolbox to add any type of object to the
worksheet, but I keep getting the message:

"cannot insert object"

I have tried reinstalling Excel, as one post suggested, removing the
..EXD file from the temp Excel8.0 directory and a number of other
futile efforts.

Please help me!

Regards,
Matthew

I am trying to add a command button to an Excel (2003) worksheet. However, I keep getting the message "Cannot insert object".

Please can someone suggest possible solutions

Thanks very much

I´m trying to insert a bricscad drawing in Excel and Excel reports that
cannot insert object.
With AutoCad it works perfect.

I am trying to insert the outlook message (.msg format) into one of the cells
in excel and it does not allow me to do the same. Says cannot insert object.
i think I have done it before but in the list of objects that can be inserted
I cannot see the option for msg file so may be thats the reason it is not
allowing this. Could I get some help here on how to get this sorted. I cannot
even create a link to this file.

Hi,

Every time I try to insert an ActiveX control (eg command button) from the control toolbox onto an Excel worksheet, I get the error "Cannot Insert Object". I've spent two hours searching the internet for a solution and nothing seems to help. I thought I may need to register an ocx file, but if so, I don't know what it's called. I tried registering the fm20.dll file, but I still get the error after doing that. Does anyone have any suggestions? This problem also prevents me from running macros in existing workbooks that have ActiveX controls, returning "unexpected error (32811)".

Is there a VB Code and/or macro to set up to insert an object or find a file on a server to embed into an excel spreadsheet?

I am trying to set up a button to run a macro to go to the menu - insert - object - display as icon - create file from with the browse menu - click linke to file checkbox and display as icon checkbox

In Excel 2007, click on Insert, just click on any type of chart buttons,
nothing appears. Then click on the drop-down error on any of the chart
buttons, click All Chart Types, then click any of the chart type button on
the right, click OK, the error "Some chart types cannot be combined with
other chart types. Select a different chart type." Then go to any Office
application, such as Word or Powerpoint, Insert Chart, it gives the same
error.

I Googled, quite a lot of people are experiencing the problem, some went to
the extend of deleting the userprofile and let Windows re-create the
userprofile. However, doing that also didn't solve my problem. I tried
accounts with and without administrative priviledges, problem still there.
So, the permission problem is not the cause.

The installation of Office 2007 is fresh (meaning not from upgrade of Office
2003). Uninstallation and re-installation didn't solve the problem.

Windows is Vista Business. Office 2007 is the only application installed, of
course apart from antivirus (Microsoft Forefront), Adobe Reader and the
utilities pre-installed with Lenovo notebooks.

The symptom is consistent - New user logs in > Start Excel > In the new
blank worksheet, Insert Chart, it works and that is the only time it works >
Exit Excel > Open Excel again > In the new blank worksheet, Insert Chart,
nothing happens, Insert All Chart Types > error "Some chart types cannot be
combined with other chart....". From then on, cannot do chart. Delete the
userprofile, log in again, same series of events - only the first time and
the only time using Excel, the chart works, after that no more. It happens
to all the users who login.

I first encountered this problem one year ago, only on a Lenovo notebook
X60.

At some point I lost the ability to use the Controls toolbox -- probably in going from Excel 2002 -> 2007 -> 2003. I get the message "Cannot insert object."

I had a reference to Microsoft Forms 2.0 Object Library, unreferenced it, re-registered Windows/system32/FM20.dll, and re-referenced it -- no joy.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

In Excel 2002, if I assign a Macro to an object then subsequently delete the
macro, the object still "thinks" it is a Macro Button.
i.e. the cursor changes as it passes over the object and looks like it is
running something if you click on it.
This could lead to confusion when I distribute the Worksheet to other users.
I'd prefer not to delete the object (in this case a fully formatted chart)
to get over this problem.

Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

When inserting objects into an excel .xlsx spreadsheet I sometime receive an
error message reading "cannot insert object" with no other alternaive than to
click OK. I have tried inserting .docx and .xlsx files and in both cases I
get the error, there appears no consistency. Why am I getting this error and
how can it be avoided?

Hi ,
I inserted a "microsoft word document" object into an excel sheet. But if
the content of the document is more than two pages , it seems that it can't
be shown wholely in the "microsoft word document" object. How can I browse a
multi-pages "microsoft word document" object in Excel 2003 just like in Word
2003?
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Best regards,

Hi,

I am desperate with DTPicker: it used to work, I have several worksheets that use it, but all of a sudden it has stopped working for me.

When I insert the control on a blank worksheet (Developer, Insert, More Controls, Microsoft Date and Time Picker Controls 6.0 SP6), I get a message with "Cannot Insert Object".

Similarly, when I try to place it on a Userform, I receive an "Invalid argument".

The Activex control seems to be well registered: there is a "Microsoft Windows Common Controls-2 6.0 (SP6)" on the list of References and it is checked, location is c:windowssystem32MSCOMCT2.OCX

I have re-registered the control (regsvr32 c:windowssystem32MSCOMCT2.OCX) but nothing changes. I even got a different version of the control (SP4 instead of SP6) and tried registering, nothing changes.

I'm using Excel 2007 and Vista.

What else could I try?

thanks!

I have grouped some objects in Excel that I need to rotate. I can't activate
a rotate handle for the grouped objects.

I am trying to insert an excel object as an object in an excel sheet.
When opening the object, it will open, but not be visible. In order to see the object, you need to right click on the icon on the task bar and maximize the window.

Examples are attached of:
1) opening worksheet object
2) maximizing worksheet object

Has anyone experienced the same issue? Any solutions out there?
Im running Excel 2003 version

Thanks

Hi all,

I have a worksheet that I've inserted a Bitmap object on. (I clicked Insert, Object, Bitmap Object). I renamed it from 'Object 1' to 'Signal'. After drawing on the bitmap object, I want to write some VBA code to store the bitmap image to an Access 2003 database. I know how to store text and numbers already, but how would I do it with a bitmap object? I know Access has OLEObject fields... is that something to look into? I just don't know what code to use to achieve this, or how to select the object in Excel with VBA code. I've scoured the 'net and can't find anything. Any help is much appreciated!

Thanks

I am unable to insert objects (like .txt, .sql, .log), but i am able to
insert other MS office objects.
When i open the already embedded objects, the MS application (Word, Excel)
hangs.
The same when i am trying to insert as well.

Any help is very much appriased.

Hi Everyone,
I have a code in excel that after processing saves to a new name, and
tries to remove all the code from the activeworkbook, save all the open
workbooks and quits Excel.

The problem is:

The Standard module and the form do not get deleted after the saved
workbook is opened. Though the code gets deleted from the objects.

Any ideas on why this is happening. Here's the code.

Sub main()
RemoveAllMacros Activeworkbook
End sub

Sub RemoveAllMacros(ByVal objdocument As Object)

' deletes all VBProject components from objDocument
' removes the code from built-in components that can't be deleted
' use like this: RemoveAllMacros ActiveWorkbook ' in Excel
' requires a reference to the
' Microsoft Visual Basic for Applications Extensibility library
'Dim objdocument As Workbook
Dim i, l As Long
Dim w As Workbook

If objdocument Is Nothing Then Exit Sub
i = 0
On Error Resume Next
i = objdocument.VBProject.VBComponents.count
On Error GoTo 0
If i < 1 Then ' no VBComponents or protected VBProject
MsgBox "The VBProject in " & objdocument.Name & _
" is protected or has no components!", _
vbInformation, "Remove All Macros"
Exit Sub
End If
With objdocument.VBProject
For i = .VBComponents.count To 1 Step -1
l = 1
On Error Resume Next
l = .VBComponents(i).CodeModule.CountOfLines
.VBComponents(i).CodeModule.DeleteLines 1, l
' clear lines
On Error GoTo 0
Next i
End With
With objdocument.VBProject
For i = .VBComponents.count To 1 Step -1
'On Error Resume Next
If (.VBComponents(i).Type = vbext_ct_StdModule Or _
.VBComponents(i).Type = vbext_ct_MSForm) Then
.VBComponents.remove .VBComponents(i)
End If
' delete the component
'On Error GoTo 0
Next i
End With

Application.ScreenUpdating = False
Application.DisplayAlerts = False
For Each w In Application.Workbooks
w.Save
Next w

For Each w In Application.Workbooks
w.Saved = True
Next w

Set objdocument = Nothing
Application.ScreenUpdating = True
'Application.DisplayAlerts = True
Application.Quit

End Sub

No luck finding an answer? You could always try Google.
